When I see places light up, I let out a gasp but mom just chuckles, “don’t worry. Everything I see is something I’ve hidden.”
“Oh,” I say. Mom goes from room to room and checks each lit area. When she finds nothing out of place and nothing extra, each lighted area goes back to normal. When she returns to the room she looks even more exhausted but a little relieved.
“You are to come home right after school and I am going to teach you a few new things and see what all you remember from previous lessons,” Mom pulls me into a hug. “I love you but what you did tonight, was very disappointing. You are so lucky that nothing bad happened.”
I offer a small smile, I haven’t told her that Max was snooping around but luckily it does not seem like he took anything or left anything behind.
“I’m sorry,” I finally say and she nods.
“Get some rest, you're going to be quite busy the next few days,” and with that, mom walks back down the hallway and shuts herself in her room.
