Chapter 28

The car ride is relatively tense, Mom looks stressed out and it gets worse the closer we get to our destination. It’s dark out when we pull into the parking lot of a motel. I get out and stretch then follow Mom into the front office area. She grabs one key then we enter our little motel room. It has two twin beds.

“It’s fine, we should only be here for one night,” Mom says and I nod then drop down onto one of the beds.

“Are we touring around tonight?” I ask then yawn and cover my mouth with my hand.

“No, this isn’t the town. It’s nearby though,” Mom says and unpacks her toiletry bag then goes to freshen up. When she comes out of the bathroom, she settles into bed.

“So you were born in this town, or the town we are going to tomorrow?” I correct myself.
