Chapter 21: Mistakes Were Made

ELLIE

The next day I was in a daze. I couldn’t forget my kiss with Cohen or the fact that he was my mate.

“Focus,” Nia barked at me in between our yoga poses.

I sighed. “I’m sorry. I’m a mess today.”

Nia sat on the ground. “Do you want to talk about it?” She winced, but kept looking at me expectantly.

I laughed. “You don’t really talk things out, do you?”

She shook her head. “I’m more physical with my feelings. But I think I could be a good listener.”

I sat on the ground across from her and laid back on the grass. I closed my eyes to keep the bright sun out of them and soaked in the warm rays.

“Cohen kissed me.”

“And?”

“And it was great, but then he freaked out and ran away.”

“Hmm. That’s not very flattering. Are you a bad kisser?”

I barked out a laugh. “No, I don’t think so. I think he just freaked out about kissing in general.”

Nia hesitated a beat. “Is that the only thing that’s bothering you?”

I shook my head. “I realized he’s my mate.”
