COHEN
Sarah was dead.
Lance sat on the other side of the desk, his eyes glassy with unshed tears.
I didn't know what to say to Tag. He'd known it was a risk. We all did. But that didn't make it any easier. He'd just lost his mate.
I sighed, nodded, then stood.
I left Lance behind and headed down to the basement.
I walked into the exam room and found Rain scrubbing the room while Dr. Val cleaned and tended to what looked like a healthy baby boy. Both of their eyes met mine when I entered but quickly shifted away.
Tag was kneeling beside Sarah's body with her hand clutched in both of his as he wept. His every sob tore at my heart.
Ellie was beside him with her arm around his shoulder. I frowned at her. Not because she was there or holding another man, but because of her expression.
There was hurt in her eyes as she stared at her friend, but she wasn't crying and her jaw was clenched.
I looked between her and Sarah and understanding dawned on me.
Sh*t.
She knew.
