Had She Gone Crazy?

"My lady, is there something that is troubling you?" Katherine raised her head and stared at her most trusted ally, her head maid that was serving her before she married his majesty, the emperor.

"Nothing you should be worried about! Have you done what I have asked you to do?" taken aback by the cold tone, the maid bowed her head and nodded her head.

It looked from her face that she wanted to say further but she kept silent when she noticed that her mistress did not want to listen to her anymore.

"Yes, I have asked the best artisan of the empire to renovate the pearl palace and emerald palace. And I have asked the knights of the royal army to come and visit you." in a tone filled with bitterness, the maid replied and forwarded a few papers in her hands.

"My lady, these are the designs the renovator had sent for you."

"As far as I remember, I have only asked for the renovation of the emerald palace. Luci already has the great luxury of having a whole palace for himself when he should be here with me.

So, I am thinking of bringing him back. His palace did not need any kind of renovation." Before her maid could raise her head and complain, her stern voice forced her to lower her head again.

Katherine stared at the designs patiently. But her frown grew deeper with frost filling her eyes. Her sharp blue eyes looked no less than a frozen lake emanating a strong aura that was enough to freeze everyone to death.

"And these designs are trash. Throw them and change the designer. I want one that looks royal yet should suit a young boy.

These are luxurious but it looked like an adult design. Make them better not give me just the common palace looks with just a few more sparkling gems." too afraid to say another word, the maid nodded and left the room.

"Close the room behind you, I need a few minutes of peace." The door was closed and finally Katherine closed her eyes.

"What shall i do to change that look in your eyes Luci!" she whispered as she crossed her finger on the burning candle. The heat that was emitted by the candle brought a wry smile on her face.

The wary look on the face of Luci flashed past her eyes but she shook her head and opened her eyes as if she was running away from it.

With a panicked face, she ran towards the window and pressed the bell. She used so much pressure that the whole palace could hear the bell.

Soon the door was opened and more than a dozen maids entered the room with hasty steps. All of them were looking pale and their bodies were trembling a bit.

They knew how fickle minded and cold hearted their mistress was! It took them only a few seconds to come in yet they were sure that they were going to be punished since she was looking that frightening.

"Why did it take so much time? Are you all deaf?" she yelled at all of them. The maids flinched but did not dare to raise their heads.

"I want all of you to go and work on the palace of the crown prince. Go and check if the maids are working well and make sure that he is having all the luxuries he deserves.

You, make sure his classes are running smoothly." she pointed at the maids who take care of all her needs.

"And you, I want all three of you to arrange nutritious food for him and luci. From now on both of them would have all of their meals together, so make sure that they would have everything to their liking." thought shocked and confused at her strange orders, they all bowed their heads and left.

Everyone knew in the palace that Katherine did not like Lennox since he was the biggest hurdle in making her son as the emperor. But now..

"Could it be that the lady is trying to earn a favour from the crown prince?"

"Well, she had told us that both of them had a meal together. Maybe she wanted her son to rise in the ranks by walking in the coattails of the crown prince." there was no loyalty or respect for Katherine in their words but contempt and disgust.

"Well, take it that we are finally getting a break from her viciousness. I am relieved that I am going to serve a young boy who could make my future bright!" many nodded as if they were finally enlightened while the head maid continued to stare at the door with bewilderment.

She tried her best to understand what had happened but no matter how much she thought, she did not find any reasonable explanation.

Biting her lips, she walked into the dark room and started writing a letter. Giving it a last glance and making sure everything was written well. She held the pigeon that was waiting on the window and bound the letter on its feet.

She looked around to make sure no one was there and saw here before she glared at the pigeon as if he could understand her

"Make sure there will be no mistakes. The letter is of grave importance!"
