Series of Strange Events - Part One

Gloria stayed at the Evans mansion for the weekend.

Cynthia and the Robinsons agreed on holding a courthouse wedding after all. Cynthia was surprised at how well her strange request was received, George was the heir to the prestigious Robinson family and an only child. How come his parents did not push for the grandest wedding celebration possible?

Their reputation as a family was wonderful, the elite of the elite, their extended family was huge and their friends were many. Cynthia somehow felt uneasy about their lack of resistance especially after what she talked about with George while they walked by the lanterns that evening.

His parents had no idea that the marriage between them was a fake one.

According to George, he did not see why they needed to be involved in something that was solely related to Cynthia and him. He loved his parents dearly, but this was his life, he did not feel the need to share the details concerning his upcoming marriage with anybody, parents included.

Cynthia felt conflicted about it.

Then she realized that this was all about the loyalty that George's family felt towards the Evans family. Still. Holding debts over their right to want to celebrate their son in the way they deemed right felt exaggerated.

Maybe there was something else that Cynthia wasn't factoring in?

Anyhow. She wanted to get the matter done and over with as soon as possible, but she still had a couple of to-do items on her revenge list before giving birth to her son. Most of the items on the revenge list were saved for after childbirth. And so, Cynthia thought that her in-law's reaction was strange and accepted it as it was.

But that was the beginning of a series of strange events.

The detective that had been calling her non-stop ever since that day at the museum stopped calling her all of a sudden. It wasn't like him.

But that was fine.

What wasn't so fine though... Ben, her driver, requested a leave of absence for three days because of a family emergency. It wasn't only so sudden and without prior notice, but it was very inconvenient because Cynthia was very busy the following day and she was in no shape to be driving herself now at this stage of her pregnancy. It was good that Ben was responsible enough to send her someone he hand-picked from the same driver's agency that Cynthia hired Ben through.

At least, Cynthia's schedule was not going to be interrupted. She made a mental note concerning the mansion's need for more employees. How come there wasn't a second driver around her? She had been neglecting these things and now she was paying the price for it.

It was Monday morning, And Cynthia had a ton of things to do.

But she took a moment to freeze by the door and eye the very young-looking driver who stood nervously by her Tesla.

'How old is that boy like… 18?!' she thought to herself.

Her nanny mirrored her thoughts.

"Ms. Evans, perhaps we should call for a private car to take you instead today?"

Cynthia glanced at her Givenchy watch.

"I'm already running late... bye nanny~"

"Bu-"

Cynthia walked as fast as possible now after checking the time, she didn't give her nanny the chance to insist.

"G-good morning Ms."

The young driver stuttered as he opened the door for her.

She was too angry to look closely at him or say anything that wouldn't make him more nervous than how he was already, it wasn't the boy's fault. But Ben had disappointed her deeply, and the boy was the only one around her right now, she didn't want to break his heart.

"Do you know my schedule for today?" She asked after he got behind the steering wheel.

He had better. For Ben's sake, or else, Ben was out of here.

"Y-yes, yes, Ms. To the clinic now,"

She nodded at his eyes that were evident through the rearview mirror. There was something about the young boy's face that was familiar. But she ignored it. These were just some usual strange things.

As the car raced through the streets, Cynthia was in a better mood. The boy drove well and she was going to have her checkup in the morning which meant that she'd get to see revenge and hear his heartbeats, that was enough to put her in a good mood.

She had a meeting with George and two of the board members over brunch. And then she was meeting Gloria to go for some last-minute wedding shopping. The prospect of shopping with Gloria was more exciting than getting married. It was a first!

All of her excitement evaporated when the boy missed three perfect parking spots and then passed by the clinic without stopping.

"What are you doing? You passed it!" she yelled.

"S-s-sorry Ma'am!"

They had to go through a long U-turn to make it back. When he finally parked, she got out without waiting for him to open the door for her.

She was very upset.

An hour later, Cynthia felt light enough to almost skip on her way out of the clinic. She was able to see revenge's face very clearly this time and he looked so much like her!

Or, so she convinced herself.

She eyed the boy who stood by the opened door, he was even more nervous now. She felt bad about what happened in the morning so she gave him a small smile as he helped her inside. She was wearing a very comfy Nike Tracksuit that she planned on changing in her office once she reached Evans-soft.

The boy came inside and started the car.

"What's your name?" she asked, then she cleared her throat.

"…H-henry ma'am,"

No. It was impossible for Cynthia to like him after all. But something was also strange, stranger than the boy who had her ex's name.

"What's that smell?" She asked, feeling a bit nauseous all of a sudden.

"I-I cleaned the car on the inside while I waited for you, Ma'am,"

"…Just drive," she said, then she leaned her head on the window, very sleepy all of a sudden...
