CHAPTER TWENTY TWO
Adrianna looked coldly at the human-creature as she moved in front of Steffie. With chilling, unwavering eyes, she locked eyes with the man before them.
In her past life, she died miserably without a fight. She did not even know why she had to die.
Would she allow a repeat of her previous life's tragedy? A sneer appeared in Adrianna's lips.
No effing way!
With resentment and anger in her heart, Adrianna straightened her spine and toughen her resolve.
In this life, she will be damned if she allow any Tom, Dick and Harry to control and lead her by the nose!
She will fight tooth and nail for this second chance at life!
She will be the sole master of her own destiny!
Whoever blocks her way may it be man, beasts, creatures or whatever form they choose to come, she will not cower and be subservient!
She will shove all of them to the deepest corner of hell and leave them to rot in there for eternity!
Adrianna's eyes glittered with malevolence as she scrutinized the man before her.
But she has to say, this guy has unique unconventional looks and his out of this world fragrance is incomparable.
The smell coming out from him is like rotten meat combined with toxic chemicals.
The smell is so nasty and foul that Adrianna tried so hard to fight the overwhelming urge to gag.
Oddly, the more Adrianna stared at the man, the more calm she felt. She doesn't know why.
Come to think of it. She doesn't feel threatened.
Now she is left with curiosity.
"What do you want?" Adrianna asked coldly.
As if he was just waiting for Adrianna to speak, the creature immediately moved close. The sound of bones popping and cracking became louder with his every step ---a clear sign he is coming closer.
Then he stopped a few steps away from Adrianna. His jaw opened as if he was saying something.
Adrianna scrutinized the man's cruel, razor-thin lips and his decayed sharp stalactite-like teeth.
But all she can hear is just hissing and snapping with guttural sounds.
"I don't understand you."
The man waved his boney fingers and yellowed fingernails impatiently.
Adrianna was about to respond when she felt Steffie's cold hands wrapped around her waist.
She looked over her shoulder and her heart melted when she saw her best friend with tears and snot all over her face.
"Its okay, Steffie."
"Adi..." Steffie whimpered as she covered her mouth to smother her cries. She is really afraid!
"Shhh.. We will be out of here in no time."
She patted Steffie's hand on her waist. Then she looked at the man before her again.
"I will come back to you tomorrow night."
Adrianna doesn't know what overcame her. She just felt like this man cannot touch nor harm her.
Adrianna then flicked the dust on her shirt as if she was not bothered by what happened.
She turned her back from the man and held Steffie's hand. She then led the way back to the trail.
As if nothing unusual happened, Adrianna even hummed a song to calm Steffie's frayed nerves.
As the shadows went further and Adrianna was far from sight, tears fell from the man's golden eyes.
Then painful, soul-stirring moans escaped his throat.
