CHAPTER FORTY THREE
.
Lorrie gnashed her teeth and stared at Adrianna with such anger that her body is literally shaking with it.
Then she blinked the hatred in her eyes, looked away from Adrianna and looked at Andrei with tear filled eyes.
Seeing Lorrie's pitiful face, Andrei is taken aback. He just saw her about to slap Adi with such a fierce expression. Was he mistaken? He glanced at Lorrie with a doubtful look.
"Brother..." Lorrie almost jumped seeing Andrei's probing eyes. But she promptly regained her senses and called out with a hoarse voice ---sounding like she is holding back tears.
"Uncle..." Mimi also called out softly.
Adrianna curled her lips. She really wants to beat the shamelessness out of this duplicitous pair!
"Papa..." Adrianna called out with a choke in her voice. Not wanting to lag behind the contest.
Her papa is an old soul. He is much too gallant and chivalrous that she is afraid her papa will be tricked again by her Aunt. Once this muddy water is touched, her parents relationship will be doomed again in this life.
She cannot immediately tear down her Aunt and cousin's faces. She has to do it step by step. Letting her parents doubt their attitude and intentions is a good way to start.
Andrei rubbed his temples. He is not good at dealing with women and their guiles. He would much rather stay far away from it.
Andrei shook his head and faced Adrianna, confusion written on his face.
Seeing her father's confusion, Adrianna quickly got up and hugged her father's arm.
"Your back. Did you drink tubâ with your friends?" She saw her father cast her Aunt with a doubtful look. Its a good start. For now, she think it prudent to divert her father's attention before plunging deep into the play. Her father doesn't like to deal with theatrics. He would rather beat someone up.
As expected, the moment she changed the subject, the corners of Andrei's eyes crinkled with a hint of laughter.
"We had a contest on who can drink more aIcohol. And I out drank them all!" He boasted. His chest puffed up like a child.
"Papa, how old are you? You still have this childish games with your friends?" Adrianna can't help but tease her father.
"What childishness? It's also an ability to be able to hold your liquor."
Adrianna snorted and pulled her papa to sit on the sofa.
"Mama! Papa is home!" Adrianna shouted. She walked to the dining table and filled a glass of water.
"Good! I'm almost done here!" Her mother shouted back.
Their dining area and living room has no clear division aside from the few steps separating it. Everything is just in one open space. While in the dining area, you can eat at the same time watch TV ---which is in the living room.
Adrianna gave the glass of water to her father and sat beside him. She secretly studied her Aunt and cousin's expressions. They look like well behaved students in front of their principal.
"How have you been? How about your husband Ben?" Andrei took a sip of water and placed the glass on the small table in front of him.
Lorrie held her dress with tight fists. Crumpling the cloth into a mess. She looks worried with a miserable struggle on her face. Her head is bowed down slightly, an accurate angle displaying her delicate features ---features like her mother. Adrianna sneered. And the curtain is up. Here comes the act.
"Bro..brother. Ben...Ben has broken his lower back. There was a dispute on the grains during the harvest and he was kind enough to mediate. But someone was very cruel that he pushed Ben so hard. With the push, Ben fell and his back bumped on a huge rock. When we pulled him up, he was unable to stand. Right now, he is in the hospital. He can't even move without shouting in pain." Lorrie raised her flushed face with red, teary eyes.
"The doctor said it would take awhile. Give or take, two to three months to recuperate. The expenses..." She bit her lips hard as if trying to hold back a sob from escaping her mouth. "Its been hard this past few weeks. We can barely hold on. Our food.." She choked on her last word and a single tear slid from her eyes.
She observed her father's expression. Her Aunt looks like her mother. She knows how deep her papa loves her mother. But her father's weakness is here. She can almost hear her father's defenses crumbling. She glanced at her sly Aunt.
With her red eyes, a single tear running down her cheek, biting her lips to swollen plumpness, Adrianna can't deny, her Aunt's acting is superb. She looks pretty and weak. What man can deny such pretty damsel in distress? Not her chivalrous father.
She doesn't know how her father ended up with her Aunt in bed. But she believes, her father is not that muddle headed. There must be a ploy somewhere. Her father did not explain in her past life. Maybe he believes she was too young to understand the complexities of that incident or maybe he was too ashamed to explain what happened. She doesn't know.
One time, she overheard his father explain to her mother. He thought it was her mother in their bed. But her mother did not believe her father. Who would when you find your husband and your sister tumbling in their bed? Isn't this the generic excuse of men when they are caught with other women? Then they fought about how, for almost 15 years, her father doesn't know her mother's kisses, her body. When Adrianna heard them talking about their bodies, she quickly scampered away like a bird in flight! She doesn't want to hear anything about her parent's sex life.
But, if what her father said is true, would that mean her aunt climbed in her parent's bed pretending to be his wife? If that's the case, as what her mother said, how can her father not know her mother's kisses?
Adrianna stared at her Aunt with a pensive look. She has the impulse to intervene and demolish her aunt's stage. Before she died, she knew that her uncle's mishap is a lie. And that both her aunt and uncle has been deceiving her family just to extort money from them like leeches.
She clenched her hands as she watched her father's eyes which was intently fixed on her aunt. Her Aunt is dressed up to the nines with her abundant breasts almost jumping out from her skimpy, spaghetti strapped dress. She is really all dressed to kill.
Is her mother right after all, that her father has an affection for her mother's twin?
She wants to see how her father reacts and how he intends to solve her Aunt. She may help her father in this current temptation. But how about the next one?
"Brother Andrei..." Lorrie whimpered a cry, acting like her father's little wife. She looked at her father with ambiguous eyes as if her father is the superhero in her heart.
Adrianna's soul is about to ascend to heaven with too much anger. Her Aunt is blatantly seducing her brother-in-law in her sister's house, in front of her sister's daughter, while her sister is diligently cooking food for them! She has never met a shameless woman such as her Aunt.
Andrei took back his eyes, picked up the glass from the table and drank all the remaining water in one gulp. He put the glass back down and rubbed his temples.
Adrianna waited in silence. Waiting for her father's performance. She just hope her father will not disappoint her. Just thinking about her father and her Aunt, her heart is sour and filled with negative emotions.
Looking at her Aunt and her father, she can feel the ambiguity between them. Is there something between them already?
Her Aunt is casting misleading gentle glances towards her father, acting like a maiden. Her father is rubbing his temples with his eyes closed as if he is avoiding something.
Mimi's head was bowed down with both her hands on her lap, appearing like she didn't see nor hear anything. But with Adrianna's discerning eyes, she can see a hint of a smile curving her lips.
A lot of questions popped in her mind and the taut silence is killing her, making her antsy. She wants to do something. But she is waiting for her father's move.
"Let's eat!" Liena suddenly came out from the kitchen with a platter of rice on her hands. "Adi, your papa told me to make blood tofu for you. Go, get it."
Adrianna glanced at her clueless mother. She wants to eat blood tofu but she doesn't seem to have the appetite anymore.
