CHAPTER FORTY SIX
.
Adrianna is changing her T-shirt in one of the restroom cubicles. The restroom has a total of 10 cubicles. Five on the right side and another five on the left side.
She is smoothing out the wrinkles of her shirt when she heard the unhurried sound of heels clicking from the restroom entrance. The sound is slowly approaching like a ticking clock, until it eventually stopped just outside her cubicle.
She frowned. She is the only student using the restroom as classes has already started. Why would it stop just outside her cubicle when there are many vacant booths?
She waited a bit. Listening for the clicking heels to appear again. But instead of heels clicking, she heard etheral whimpers of a woman in despair. The energy around her dropped down to a negative. The whimpers turned down right creepy as the winds carried the voice that lacks any obvious physical source.
The hairs on her body stood on ends as she felt a sudden chill from her ears down to her feet. She wants to go out and escape from this terror. But she is afraid to open the door.
What if she opens the door and the crying woman is just waiting for her to come out?
Merely thinking about it, her ears already echoed the wild thumping of her heart. Before she can make a decision on what to do, she heard girls talking as they are approaching the restroom. Hearing them is like hearing the trumpets of heaven. She is saved.
She confidently opened the cubicle door. The girls she heard were laughing and gossiping as they finally entered the restroom. Seeing them, Adrianna has found her backbone and bravely looked around the restroom. She saw that the windows are open and the trees outside were energetically waltzing with the wind.
Was it just her imagination gone wild? Adrianna tilted her head at the side. Maybe thats the case.
Adrianna took back her eyes from the windows and gave a nod of greeting to a student who passed in front of her.
She ridiculed herself secretly. How can she be such a dimwit and scare herself senseless.
Adrianna studied her reflection in the mirror as she combed her long, jet black hair. The wall mounted mirror is 36 inches wide that reflects her face up until her shoulders. Below the mirror are two separate sinks.
Aside from Adrianna's reflection, the cubicles are also reflected in the mirror. While combing her hair with her fingers, she also noticed a girl with her head tilted away from her. All she sees in the mirror is her black as midnight hair.
When she is about to exit the restroom, she heard a bang! She instantly looked behind her. The bang just now was a door that was deliberately slammed closed.
How crude. Adrianna frowned in displeasure. They should not treat public property with careless disregard.
She faced the mirror again and saw the girl beside her is unmoved. She is not even bothered by that rude door slamming. Adrianna shrugged her shoulders. She turned and was about to by pass the girl. Then she suddenly stopped. Her face drained of color.
She looked at the mirror again. She saw the girl's black hair. She retracted her eyes and looked beside her.
There is no one beside her physically. But in the mirror, beside her is a girl combing her hair!
She looked back at the mirror again. Her throat felt uncomfortable as it went dry. Her heart like a freight train. The girl is slowly turning her head towards the mirror.
Adrianna wants to take her eyes back, escape and not look in the mirror anymore. But she is stunned in place. Her feet seems to be nailed on the spot.
When the girl finally faced the mirror, a cry of horror escaped from Adrianna's lips, her legs shaking. Its the faceless girl with the contorted clay like face!
The girl has no facial features but she can feel her mocking look as if she can feel how terrified she is.
Hell! She can even taste her own fear!
With her heart on her throat, Adrianna somehow has gotten free from her spell bound enchantment.
She instantly ran outside the restroom and sprinted all the way to the classroom. She is panting when she looked over her shoulder. She screamed in horror as she saw the faceless girl with her hands outstretched ---as if wanting to squeeze the life out of her.
She ran like a rocket towards the stairs and went up the second floor, the third floor and stopped at the fourth floor. She looked back. She saw the girl floating with her long white dress fluttering with the wind. Her arms still outstretched. Intent on catching up to her.
Adrianna cried in terror. She can feel her soul separating from her body! She went inside one of the vacant classrooms through the back door and ran in front towards the blackboard. She faced the back door, desperately praying the girl would evaporate and leave her alone.
The universe must have heard her pathetic cries. It has been minutes but the girl seemed to vanish out of thin air. Adrianna vigorously pumped her chest, releasing a sigh of relief! She then closed her eyes, bent her body forward as she held her thighs, crazily catching her breath.
She is absorbed with the bliss of having escaped from a horrifying end and thanked the heavens for helping her.
What the hell was that?! Why is the girl in her dream at school?!
Adrianna frowned in irritation.
She felt something tickling her nose as light as butterfly wings. When she opened her eyes, Adrianna's heart stopped. She almost peed in her pants.
She saw the hem of a white gown floating in front of her eyes, fluttering in the wind. The girl is now floating right in front of her. If she stands straight, they would literally be facing each other!
She wants to scream but her mouth just opened but no sound came out.
Then she heard the winds carry the disembodied cry of a woman in despair. The cry is heart rending, soul stirring but chilling. Like a dead person crying from her grave.
She sobbed and bit her lips in fear. She slowly straightened her body and faced the faceless girl. Her body instinctively moved back as the hideous face of the girl moved closer to her face.
Damien! She screamed in her mind with everything she's got.
"Da..mien ~" The girl uttered in a dead, sing song voice that gave Adrianna the chills.
The girl...she....how...?
She whimpered a cry and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she is in her room. Her room is cloaked in darkness with a paltry moonlight shining through the jalousie windows.
She is breathing rapidly, her back drenched in sweat.
"Damien.." She whispered. She needs him. She badly needs him now.
"Da..mien~" The disembodied sing song voice mimicked jeeringly.
Half of Adrianna's soul has flown away from terror! The girl is right at her bedroom door, floating with her long, white dress dancing ---even with the absence of wind. She can feel the girl's hatred from where she is. The malevolent energy is suffocating her.
The girls arms raised again. Her fingers forming claws reaching out to her as she languidly floats in her direction. Adrianna can clearly taste the girls deadly intent to strangle her to death.
When the girl was a step away, she closed her eyes as she gritted her teeth.
Damien! She called out again with a last desperate effort.
When she opened her eyes again, she was enveloped in the warm, muscular arms of someone.
The scent of musk and pines tingled her senses first before her mind cleared up. Then she burst out crying.
"Damien..." She whined and poured out all her grievances.
"Shhhh...baby, I'm here."
