Why me?

"Okay, so you didn't answered the former part of my question. Why me?" Her contemplative gaze ran over his face and paused on his eyes.

Those mysterious black eyes of his was devoid of light. It was strange to observe it close as even though his angular face was wearing the innocent expressions, his eyes didn't.

She was dumbfound for the first time to see such hollow eyes. They weren't scary nor mesmerizing to her. It was just expressionless, as if a lot was sealed inside those black doors, and if unleashed somehow, something very unexpected would happen.

Experiencing the same stare, Eric felt nostalgic when they were in the cab. He was happy inside upon seeing her looking at him, but her stare began to bother when she didn't battled her eyes of his gaze. It was as if she was prying into his soul, which he didn't liked.

He immediately averted his face to break their eye contact and answered her question with a cough.

"It's because I trust you." There was a small tincture of red around his cheekbones.

"What?! Wait a minute. You are offering me just because...you find me trustworthy?" Ayana was amazed on this unexpected response.

She was planning to just get done with this question and leave at once as she had already made up her mind, but upon hearing his reply she couldn't help but get convinced to listen him more. 'Why would you trust someone like me? You don't even know my background.' she was now more curious than concerned.

"You might find it wierd, but since the first time we met, I knew you were the type of person I could always rely on. Besides, it's not like you are going to take advantage of me later, are you?" He giggled as he shifted again towards Ayana. But he was greeted with partly opened mouth from shock and eyes opened wide.

For strange reasons, she just kept staring him until the raise of concern from his brows brought Ayana back to life.

"Wha-?! Ofcourse not! I ain't got that big of a brain to trick the assistant of the CEO of the company I work in." She almost yelled from surprise but soon flustered upon her reactions as how she ended up insulting herself again.

'Shit! What's wrong me?! Why am I even defending myself?!! This will only make the matter worse!'

But while Ayana was regretting over actions, Eric was struggling to hold his laughter in.

'So cute!' he squealed within upon seeing her face turning red and hands clasped on her mouth to not let out another word. Yet he failed and burst into laughter.

"It.. it's okay!.. hahaha..you don't have to feel so embarassed.." he tried to reassure Ayana while managing to speak in gaps between his laughter.

'What's he even laughing for? Did I looked that funny?' Ayana pouted as her embarrassment soon turned into anger. But that too didn't last long when her gaze accidentally fall upon how wholeheartedly he was laughing with his arms relaxed sideways and chin facing the ceiling.

Unknowingly, he looked much at ease than the other encounters in their past. Though he looked cute all this time, this was the first time she heard such a joyous laugh, so much that even her head calmed down with the vibe and she as well wished to join in his chuckle.

This was all wierd as despite having a deep husky voice, his laughter was amazingly light and melodious. His long eyelashes curved cresent and his cupid lips thinned by a bright smile was an unforgettable sight for her.

She didn't knew why, but her instincts told her she was being judgemental all this time.

After watching him to her heart's content, she stood up from the bed and poked at his forehead as he was trying to calm his facial nerves down.

Just how long has it been since he last laughed so loud? Maybe when he was ten? Or even twelve?! He didn't remembered, but the fact that Ayana had once again managed to open the lid of his jar, he could do nothing but surrender in her hands. For the first time, he saw a yellow butterfly escape out of his jar.

"I said stop laughing okay? It's not even that big of a deal!" She pouted as she leaned towards him while tapping on his forehead once again.

Seeing her acting like a baby, Eric again chuckled and replied sarcastically "Yes. Its definitely not that big of a deal."

He grabbed her hands teasingly and stood up.

Ayana flinched upon realising the difference between their heights and subconsciously moved in her self-defense position, but the hand trapped in his grip made her lose the balance and she falled on the ground.

"Ahhh! F**k!" She cussed loudly without realising Eric was still in front of him. It striked late but she soon realised and instinctively covered her mouth. No matter how friendly they were, he was still her boss in terms of office hierarchy.

"! I am really sorry boss! Please give me a minute I'll-" she rushed to apologise but was interrupted with a cold expression.

"Huh?...Did you forgot my name again?" He said.

It strangely felt odd.

"Heh?!"

Ayana glanced at him who was still holding her hands, but the grip was more tighter than before. Her eyes were locked with his for a moment as she constantly pressed her lower spine from pain.

Ofcourse she did remembered his name, but what did he meant by that question? He looked kinda pissed off for strange reasons as there were lines from frowning all over his smooth forehead.
