The location of the tomb of Phae is no secret.
Almost everyone has heard since childhood that the tomb of God Phaeth is located in the area of Baitou Mountain, under the waterfall of eternal life. However, most people also stop there. They may never know what Baitou Mountain and Eternal Waterfall look like in their entire lives.
The general understanding of the folks on Baitou Mountain is very unified: as the name suggests, it is a hill with a little snow on the top.
The word "hill" always makes people feel that the place is not very dangerous, it may just be a short mountain with a little mystery.
Therefore, when Kevin pointed to the peak like the "Pillar of God" and said, "The rain has stopped, can you see it clearly now? That mountain is Baitou Mountain," everyone felt a sense of absurdity.
Seen from a slightly closer place, Baitou Mountain looks even more frightening: it is very narrow, the mountain wall rises almost straight up, and the inclination is negligible, which makes people's necks sore.
The so-called "white head" probably not only means that there is snow on the top, but more likely because the top of the mountain has pierced into the clouds.
An officer looked up for a long time, and finally choked out a sentence: "Please tell me, 'located in the vicinity of Baitou Mountain' means that we are going to bypass it."
Kevin snorted, raised his chin, and thoughtfully broke their fantasy: "No, we're going to climb it."
Everyone: "..."
"But not tonight," Kevin paused, pointing to the top of the mountain and said, "There are some things on the mountain that are not easy to deal with at night. Going up will kill you. Let's speed up and spend the night at the bottom of the mountain. We will leave at dawn tomorrow."
The crowd was urged forward by the whips of their horses, causing them to quickly drive the vultures without delay. This resulted in a large clump of water being splashed, drenching the flowers beside the dense forest road.
The officer inquiring had doubts brewing in his mind amidst the howling winds. How did Commander Fassbender know of the difficulty on the mountain? Had he been there before?
One would hardly be idle enough to visit such a ghostly marvel!
Night had fully descended upon them.
As they were in close proximity to the north, the climate was drier and colder than that of the Golden Lion Country, with substantial temperature differences between day and night.
The damp clothes caused by the rain combined with the nocturnal winds to make it feel rather chilly. Kevin rubbed his hands together and snorted as he warmed his fingertips quickly, subsequently helping others to erect a few simple, makeshift tents that could provide some shelter from the wind.
Several officers there tactfully constructed a fire that was located in the sheltered area where several of the tents had been erected. They subsequently put wine bags by the fire, which would help warm them up, and then divided their tasks, actively searching for food.
"Stay close by searching in the undergrowth ahead of you and do not pass the smoky belt beyond the forest, please be watchful of possible poisoning," Kevin cautioned loudly before finding a spot to dry and sit upon.
He stretched out his long legs and leaned his back on a rock, with the most leisurely and relaxed posture he could muster, whilst toasting his sodden cloak.
Kevin typically did not bear many burdens when travelling, as it was more convenient and lighter for him to travel that way. A water bladder, cowhide bag filled with small items like flint and sand, short melee knife, and a long-range longbow sufficed.
As he could find food en route, he never put too much stock in where he could stay overnight, picking a place with a little wind being his only criteria. Yet, now that there were other people, more things were brought as well.
There were military tents, emergency medicine, and plenty of dry food. Nonetheless, when game was found, no one intended to touch the dry rations. Who knew if something edible could be found at the God of Faer cemetery? It was better to be prepared.
Kevin looked at the mountains behind him, retrieved a small piece of crumpled parchment and a pen from his leather bag, and drew a column-shaped white-headed hill. He wrote, "Here we are, we will head up tomorrow" beneath the drawing.
Whistling, he waited for a white eagle he had released to come down and land on the rock beside him.
"Stretch your wings out," he told Bai Ying, then rolled the parchment into the small metal cylinder tied to Bai Ying's feet and said, "Come, go back and report the itinerary."
The white eagle flapped its wings and swiftly disappeared into the sky.
In the early hours of the next day, the bird carrying the letter flapped its wings and thudded onto the emperor's desk in the Wujinxuan Palace, once again soaking a large area near Oswald.
Oswald had not enjoyed restful sleep for multiple days now. Finally, he had rested for a while on the desk only to be awakened by this little creature, and his face was covered with eagle hair and muddy water.
"...Can't you learn to land accurately?" Oswald wiped his face, patted his forehead, attempted to wake himself up, and then extracted the Impressionist master Kevin's masterpiece from the small metal cylinder.
It was entirely due to the fact that the white-headed hill had been originally unremarkable. After being distorted by Kevin's magical pen, it was now a far cry from its original depiction.
Oswald furrowed his brows, staring at the upright image on the parchment for what felt like several moments before crumpling it expressionlessly and tossing it aside.
"It's unpleasant..."
