Chapter 49.2

The exit consisted of a heavy stone slab positioned above the top step of the stone staircase. Two tall individuals could just reach the stone slab with a small ladder, but it required significant effort to move it.

Kevin himself was tall, and Oswald, who had transformed into a giant Sirius, provided natural assistance.

Typically, when seeking help, Kevin did not ask politely. Instead, he waved his finger in front of Oswald's nose to gain his attention and said, "It's time for you to use your footing function."

Oswald: "..."

Without hesitation, Oswald opened his mouth and bit Kevin's annoying finger, rubbing it against the sharp tip of his wolf fangs.

Kevin: "..."

He smacked Oswald's head and sneered as he stroked him twice, saying, "Will you let go? If not, I will break your dog's teeth."

Oswald contemptuously loosened his grip, allowing Kevin's fingers to be freed.

Without thinking twice, Kevin wiped his fingers on Oswald's fur and examined them closely. Seeing that his skin was not broken, Kevin angrily said, "If you had scratched my skin, I would have had to join up with the troops to ask the medical officer for some medicine." The implication was that Oswald was not too far from rabies.

Oswald snorted, arched his back, and signaled for Kevin to quickly remove the stone slab.

Kevin stood on Oswald's broad back, stepping on his fluffy fur, and couldn't help but ask, "I'm not light, and the force needed to remove the stone slab will be even greater. Can your spine hold up?"

Oswald rolled his eyes, his handsome snow wolf face displaying indifference as he said, "Isn't it a little late to ask if my spine can handle it after you have been sitting on it all day? Do you think big beasts have bones made of glass?"

Recognizing that Kevin cared about him, which was rare, his conscience kicked in. Nonetheless, Kevin's concern was shut down. He snorted, raised his hand, and without saying a word, punched the edge of the stone slab.

Fortunately, Oswald was in his beast form, obliging to act as a stepping stone. If they were both in their human forms, he wouldn't have allowed Kevin to do it. But with his strength, three punches from him would have caused the stone slab blocking the exit to crack and crumble.

Kevin's fist wasn't as strong as Oswald's, but it was powerful enough. He incorporated some ingenuity and quickly shattered a corner of the stone slab.

Using both hands, he lifted the stone slab and moved it aside slowly.

The exit, approximately one meter square, allowed Kevin to emerge easily. He lay beside the hole, waiting for Oswald to follow suit. However, the latter faced a slight predicament.

He was stuck...

The size of Sirius was much larger than that of an ordinary ferocious beast. Although he possessed a beautiful proportion, his legs, feet, and waist were all considerably sturdy.

His Majesty the Emperor jumped forcefully, sticking his head, two front paws, and the front half of his waist... only to get stuck at the part where his folded wings were.

Oswald: "..."

Kevin, who had been lying on the side, ready to help, shamelessly laughed at him. He then held Oswald's large wolf head and said, "To be honest, the Sirius I had before was much slimmer than you. Look how strong you are now. Hey... go back and obediently lose some weight."

Oswald didn't want to engage in a conversation with him at all. It took him a while, with Kevin's help, to finally free himself from the grasp of the cave door. He shook his embarrassed white hair.

They found themselves at the bottom of a dry well. Kevin sealed the stone slab once again and examined the stone wall around them. The fresh chiseled climbing marks indicated that the main army was not far away.

Kevin dusted off his hands and asked Oswald casually, "Carmen, where are we outside the well?"

How dare this person, who had accidentally lay the first stone way back to the entrance of the cave, nickname me Carmen in the blink of an eye?

What does he owe me?

Oswald stared at him in displeasure for a long time before replying coldly, "Mirage."

Then, without waiting for Kevin to be ready, he grabbed the clothes behind Kevin's back in one bite, flapped his wings, and lifted the poor ancestor out of the deep well. Kevin was so surprised that he almost choked.

The name "Mirage" suggests water, but there is none to be seen. The horizon is a vast expanse of gray-yellow sand, with a gray-yellow sky above and gray-yellow sand beneath. The wind and sand dance in the air, creating an endless expanse.

The two of them stood at the mouth of the well, which was located in a small, inconspicuous ruin in the desert. There were a few ruined walls and some foundations carved with ancient patterns.

Kevin patted the wolf's head and said, "Look over there."

In the direction he pointed, there was a stretch of rolling sand dunes. It seemed to be only a hundred meters away, but it was impossible to tell how far it actually was.

At the foot of the sand dune, a long and thin procession could be seen winding its way forward, like a line of black ants.

Without a doubt, it was the first army.
