Chapter Twelve: We always believe what we don't understand

I felt the softness of the sheets under my body and slowly opened my eyelids.

The dazzling light that invested my fogged and tired eyes forced me to close them immediately, feeling their heaviness.

I mumbled for water, letting my arm voluntarily grab the container at the foot of the bed. In my room I always had a bottle of water by my side, to make sure I did not die dehydrated during the night.

But nothing. The bottle was not there.

An electric shock went through my body and I leapt to my feet, levering my arms with my eyes out of their sockets. I gasped for breath and ran a hand over my chest, feeling my heartbeats increase wildly. I swallowed the dry lump in my throat and looked down at the crumpled sheets beneath my body. I wrinkled my forehead and slowly rose to sit up.
