Drakkon smiles once more

Diana turned in her seat to find the source of Drakkon's voice and found that it was on top of the stairs. "Well?" he asked as he made his way down the stairs. Diana turned to Evan before explaining the situation.

"Evan here, along with Davis I believe, escorted me down the stairs to the dining hall, so I was just asking him about himself. On another note, I would like to know why dinner isn't served yet."

"Since you were asleep, that is, since the empress was ascent, I thought it would be better to push back dinner. You there, go inform the other maids to serve dinner." He responded as he made motion to a maid that lined the dining room.

He then walked over to the table where Diana was seated and took a seat to the right of her. "How are you feeling?" he asked with concern vivid in his eyes. Diana loved to push herself to the limit but sometimes he wished she'd just take a break.

"I'm fine." she smiled, trying to wave off his worry, but he wasn't convinced.

Drakkon gave her a look of disbelief which caused her to chuckle a bit. "Don't worry, I mean it this time." Drakkon had no choice but to believe her words; she did promise to rely on him more this evening as such he could only hope she'll follow through on her word.

Diana was a lady of her word but this, as she'd said in the past, was out of her reach. Drakkn laughed a bit as he reminisced about the past.

"What are you laughing about?" asked Diana with a pout. "Just thinking about the past and how you'd say that relying on others was out of your reach."

"Come on now, I never said that."

"Mmmhmm."

"Drakkonnnn."

"What? I didn't say anything."

As they joked around, Evan and Davis stared at Drakkon with a smile. They were happy he was finally happy and smiling. In the past he'd do nothing but frown and lock himself up in his office.

/Start of Flashback/

It was the night of the Monara annual festival Mithek. Since Mithek was only held once a year, all places of work had given employees the day off to enjoy the festive, the only establishments that would be open would be the stalls selling goodies in the capital since that's where most of the festivity would be held.

Davis remembered the night as that night would've marked the one month period since he's been working in the castle.

Davis knocked on the door of Drakkon's office twice and waited for a response. "You may enter." Davis didn't hesitate to open the door and enter. "Davis? Is there something you need?" he asked, looking up from his paperwork at Davis before taking a sip of his tea.

"I don't require anything, Your Highness. I was just wondering if you'd like to attend Mithek with me?"

Drakkon gave Davis a weird look before Davis realized what he said, "I didn't mean it like that." he blushed out embarrassed.

"I just meant if you wanted to attend the festival since you're always busy with your work. I thought that maybe tonight since the festival is only held once a year, you'd be willing to go out and have fun" he clarified, still embarrassed.

"As you said Davis, I'm busy with work, you may leave."

"But Si-"

"You may leave." Drakkon said in a stronger voice leaving no room for argument as Davis sighed before leaving. For the next ten years after that he kept trying to get Drakkon to go to the festival but it was all futile as such, he had no choice but to give up.

/End of Flashback/

As Drakkon and Diana waited for dinner to be served, they continued making small talk."I was thinking about visiting Caylus tomorrow, what do you think?" Diana stated, looking at Drakkon for his reaction.

"It's your choice if you wish to go, I will happily accompany you." he responded, causing her to sigh a breath of relief.

"If that's the case, get the necessary stuff ready, we'll be visiting Caylus tomorrow."

Drakkon nodded, and at this time the maids were just reemerging from the kitchen. They were pushing carts or rather a multilayered tray of foods. They brought the cart over to the table and bowed before serving. The food smelled delicious.

The maids quickly but cautiously served dinner. "Chef Cortez did it again." complemented mouth watering. Drakkon chuckled at her behavior and waited for her to start eating first.

"You don't have to wait for me to say eat for you to eat." she sighed, as she took a piece of steak into her mouth. "I prefer to wait on you." Diana sighed knowing there was no point in arguing with him.

The next day approached quickly and Diana was eager to arrive in Casyon. This was only because last night she swore to return to her old self after her visit. She doesn't like how lax she has become and found it a problem.

At around 5:20am, Diana was ready to depart and went to find Drakkon. 'Knowing Drakkon he's probably at the office finishing up some paperwork.' she told herself.

Upon opening the door to the office she found out she was correct, as usual. "I'm ready." she whispered as to not startle. Drakkon turned around to find Diana standing by his door in formal wear.

"Ok, just give a few minutes, have Davis escort you to the front yard." he replied as he furrowed his brows looking at the document in his hands. 'This can't be right.' he thought to himself.

"What's the matter?" she asked, concerned. She didn't like the look on Drakkon's face not one bit. "First I need to confirm, then I'll tell you once we return." he explained, still looking down at the papers.

Diana nodded as she relayed Drakkon's instruction to Davis who was standing guard outside the door. The commander nodded in comprehension of his task at hand while telling Evan to keep watch. Evan nodded as Diana and Davis disappeared from vision.

While making their way to the front yard they stopped by the kitchen to pick up some snacks. "How long have you been working here Sir Davis?" she asked, breaking the silence.

"Fifteen years, Your Highness." Diana nodded and didn't question Davisany further. Davis wore a confused look on his face. Is that it? Is that all she wanted to know?' he thought to himself. For some reason this left a feeling of disappointment with him.

Seeing the disappointed look on his face, Diana was quick to comfort. "Don't feel disappointed, I asked that question first because I wanted to see if we'd have enough time to chat about your time in the castle, and seeing how you've been here fifteen years, there isn't enough time." she smiled.

This caused Davis to blush from embarrassment, as much as Diana wanted to tease him, she decided against it, there wasn't enough time.

Once they made their way to the kitchen, Diana politely asked Cortez to prepare a snack. "Chef Cortez? May I bother you to make me some snacks for my journey?"

"Nonsense Your Highness,, there's no reason to ask." smiled the short, round old man with a receding hairline. Diana couldn't help but smile at him. He reminded her late grandfather who was the kindest man you'll ever be blessed to meet.
