Backstage ten minutes before Jin-Ae's performance
" What do you guys think about this years soon to be freshman's?" Kim Tae-Hyung the second member of Kings of Hearts asked, as he turned towards Jeon Jung-Kook the leader of, and Min Yoon-Gi the third member of Kings of Hearts.
"Their okay I guess," Yoon-Gi sighed as he walked towards the curtain and peeped at guy who was singing. "Their good but each of them lack something different when their singing."
"What do you mean," Tae-Hyung asked puzzledly.
"Well let's say the dude before this guy voiced cracked when he hit high notes, but he sang with passion, and this guy can hit high notes really well but..."
"He's not singing with passion," Tae-Hyung snapped finishing Yoon-Gi's sentence.
Yoon-Gi nodded his head in agreement, "What about you JK?" he asked pulling his head out from between the curtains.
Allowing his head to fall onto the back of the chair to rest his head, Jungkook questioned, "What about me?"
"What do you think about them?" Tae-Hyung uttered.
"What's there to think, their all boring, singing covers, only one person sang an original song and though I admit she wasn't bad, she wasn't all that good either. It was a song without no meaning to her, so in other words boring and lame." Jungkook voiced.
With blank expressions both Yoon-Gi and Tae-Hyung glanced at each other and then to Jungkook. Tae-Hyung smiled and walked behind Jungkook's chair as Yoon-Gi sat beside him.
"eh, JK don't you think that's a little too mean. I mean yes their not perfection but there's room for improvement." Tae-Hyung blabbered as he signaled to Yoon-Gi who then continued, "yes, besides there's still three more left, it's not done yet, calling them boring is a little..."
"a little What?" Jungkook snarled turning his head towards Yoon-Gi.
"hmmmmm pessimistic?" Yoon-Gi nervously mouthed.
Jungkook bit his lips and got out of the chair. He raised his hand and slid the loose hair in front of his eyes behind his ears.
"Lets make a bet then 1000 bucks says the last three is as lame as the first seventeen, if I loose I pay you both 1000 dollars each, but if I win I expect 1000 dollars from both of you, Deal?" Jungkook declared as he curled his fingers and placed his hand straight out in front of him for a fist bump.
"Deal."
"Deal."
Both Yoon-Gi and Tae-Hyung agreed as the both placed their fist into the trio fist bump. The Kings of Hearts then peeped through the curtains waiting for the results.
After Jin-Ae's song
Everyone was so shocked after hearing Jin-Ae's song, but more shocked at hearing her voice. They all were in complete utter silence, not knowing how to react. But it was Jungkook, Yoon-Gi, and Tae-Hyung who was more shocked. To break the silence a random guy in the crowd got up out of his chair and started clapping, soon after everyone else started clapping ,and whistling; cheering for Jin-Ae. She got high fives, hugs and thumbs up from her peers as she walked back towards her seat.
She sat down trying her best to stop herself from jumping up and down in excitement.
"You were awesome, I didn't know you could sing like that," Min-Seok praised her, "Yeah, now I'm wondering if I should even go up," Ae-ra joked as she got up out of her seat.
Meanwhile backstage
Jungkook pulled his head in from the curtains still surprised at what just happened he spoke, "I send you guys the money later."
"What, the Jeon Jung-Kook is admitting defeat." Yoon-Gi chuckled as they turned away from the curtains along with Tae-Hyung crossing their arms.
"There's still one more left, are you sure you're gonna throw in the towel now," Tae-Hyung teased.
Jungkook hoisted his hand in the air and walked away from his friends who were making of him. "Yeah, yeah take a picture it'll last longer."
"Where are you going dude?" Tae-Hyung shouted.
"Yeah, teasing you is no fun when you're not around," Yoon-Gi enthusiastically commented.
"None of your business." Jungkook vented as he disappeared around the corner.
During the time when Ae-ra was singing and after while freshman's later had their water break before the dancing round; Jungkook was in the bathroom.
"She sings like her," Jungkook whispered in resentment as he stared at his reflection. He sighed as leaned over the bathroom's sink and splashed the cold water onto his face.
He flexed his fingers through his hair as he lifted his head back up to meet with his reflection.
"Why can't I ever seem to escape you?" he breathed.
Gripping on to selvedge of the sink in frustration, Jungkook breathed heavily as memories he was trying to forget resurfaced once more.
It was the kind of memories that made your heart ache, it made you weak, it filled you with feelings of anger, resentment, regret and hatred as much as sadness, grief and longing.
These were the feelings Jungkook hated the most, the ones that annoyed him most, the ones that made him want to die over and over in the most painful way possible rather than to feel these feelings.
But no, he had to fight these feelings head on, because what he hated more than this was to be seen weak.
"Fuck," Jungkook aired as he pushed away from the sink.
"Did you hear that girl sing, What was her name again," Jungkook heard a distant voice spoke.
"Park Jin-Ae?" another guy questioned.
"Yeah that's the one, man she was fire." the first guy discussed upon entering the bathroom continuing to praise Jin-Ae's voice.
Jungkook who was already fuming in frustration lashed out, "Listen you punks, she not that good, in fact she was the worst one there today, don't ever mention that girls name near me again, or else..."
Jungkook then stormed out the bathroom heading back towards the backstage of the theater.
"What wrong with him?"
"Yeah why is he so worked up about?" The two guys who was left in the bathroom questioned.
They both looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders. Brushing off what just happened they both continued to discuss about Jin-Ae.
