Chapter 273

Shides felt like he was walking into the den of a ravenous beast. The dark expression on Chynir's face as his cold eyes glared down at him. Chynir stood upon a large bolder in the forest as he walked towards him.

"You would almost believe I have started some kind of trend in the heavens these days." Chynir scoffed with a twisted smile on his face. Was he trying to mock him?

Shides denied having any idea what the god was speaking of, nobody in their right mind would try to mimic the things that Chynir did, "I do not understand what you mean."

Chynir seemed to study his reactions carefully before asking, "Do you think I came for him? I am not ignorant enough to fight him."

The one that he was interested in was not Iemis. After learning that Shides had been working with the mortals against him there was no reason to waste time. Shides was always working closely with Iemis and that made it obvious for him that the things he was doing was in order to please the eldest god. Shides had always been one with a pure heart.

"Have I done something to upset you?" Shides asked him bluntly. Unaware of what reason Chynir would have to be angry with him he could only wonder why he was on the god's radar so quickly.

Chynir smirked as he jumped down from his boulder. Without time to blink Shides found himself standing face to face with Chynir. The god leaning in closely with a smile on his face made his entire body tense up. The devil was truly a beauty that could send icy chills through you with a mere glance.

"Did you think I would not notice?" Chynir questioned him while leaning in close to his ear, "You've been meddling in the mortal affairs my dear brother."

He noticed! Shides internal alarms began to scream. He had not expected Chynir to catch on so quickly to him helping the mortals with their affairs. If it was possible to feel even more chilled to the bone by the presence of the god in front of him it would have been in that moment. Shides could feel Chynir's blood lust overwhelming him where he stood. It was suffocating simply standing next to him.

"I am loyal to Iemis," Shides forced the words out of his throat,"everything I do is for the loyalty I owe to him."

"It is for his sake that I wont kill you," Chynir's brow seemed to twitch at the mention of Iemis in front of him, "instead I will make a deal with you."

"A deal?" Shides wanted to laugh at the words he heard coming from Chynir. Feeling as if he had just heard a joke. "The devil could make jokes too? Hah."

"... What?" Chynir grind his teeth as he pondered the words he had just heard from Shides. Taking a few steps away from Shides he tried to get the echo of that word out of his head. Devil? Devil?! His forehead throbbed as he tried to shake it off.

Mortals had long come to refer to him as something of a devil. The things he had done over the years had greatly earned him that title. Though being called a devil did not please Chynir. He was proud to be a god. Regardless of the things he had done in his lifetime he did not like that insulting name the mortals had come to consider him. The only reason he ignored it was because he could not refute the fact that he acted like one.

"What deal are you thinking?" Shides was curious what the devil wanted from him.

Chynir hesitated before answering him, there was a cold gleam in his eyes as he still was hung up on the insulting name that he had just heard from Shides, "Simple. Stay out of my affairs with the mortals and I will spare your life. I know how much he cares about your life."

There was no god alive that did not know how much Chynir did not get along with Iemis. In records it was known that they had both been close. That was obviously expected considering Chynir was the second eldest. The two of them were the first born gods to this world.

However the current known Chynir was seen as someone who never cared about Iemis. It was to the point that most thought he wanted Iemis dead himself. That god was trying to strike a deal to let him live for the sake of Iemis? Shides pondered if he was hearing things correctly.

No, perhaps he actually... Shides thought to himself.

"Are you offering me my life really for his sake," Shides asked him without hesitation as the words escaped him before he had time to consider it, "or for your own sake? It feels more like you are trying to ease your own guilt in attempting to kill a fellow god, Chynir."

A mortal could be seen as nothing more then a bug. Merely a short lived ant that crawls around within the mortal realm doing its own thing. Killing mortals felt like nothing more then stepping on an insect for Chynir; who was a god.

Perhaps when he thought about killing Shides he needed an excuse. He used Iemis as an excuse to give Shides a way out. It was something that seemed out of character for him. This was because Chynir had never killed a fellow god. To kill someone who was on equal standing with himself within the chain of life.

Even the devil has lines he does not wish to cross.. Shides wanted to laugh at the fact that he had realized a feint sign of humanity left within Chynir.

"I was offering you a chance to live." Chynir felt annoyed even more after hearing that remark from him. It was never pleasant for him to have others question him. Those words only felt as if Shides was trying to insult him by calling him weak.

Shides did not care if Chynir was angry with him. There was no way he was going to give in to what he wanted. The only one he was loyal to was Iemis.

"I am not yours to order around. Do you really think I would turn a blind eye to what you are doing because I am afraid to die?" Shides glared deep into Chynir's eyes as he struggles against the overwhelming pressure he felt from the god.

Chynir's expression seemed to lighten as he resolved himself to his decision, the pressure Shides felt from him seemed to explode further, realizing he had been holding back originally in respect of his intent to communicate at first, "I will be sure to make your death a quick one!"

"Do you think I will let you kill me so easily, Chynir?!" Shides reached into his clothes and placed his fingers carefully around a flute he had tucked away.

A thunderous bang could be heard from above in the sky. Streaks of electricity covering Chynir's body as the two of them glared at each other. Shides knew that he would not escape this situation easily. Chynir was out for his life and since they were in the heavenly realm there was no restrictions binding him from taking it.
