Vorbuk rushed towards the princess's palace that was on fire. Moving through the shadows all along the way to increase his speed. He kept a watch out for the intruder as he moved. Not a sign was noticeable for him.
Who would set fire to the princess's palace? Who would possibly want to harm her? Vorbuk thought to himself as he rushed with all his might to get to her.
No, because of her position since taking things over the princess would always have enemies. Regardless of how many mortals support and care for the princess there will always be dangerous people aiming for her. Vorbuk knew that was something that he could not avoid. Ever since he took the throne from her father it was only natural that her life would become at risk. Being in a royal family was already dangerous but now she was living within her own palace. While being supported by the king who had slain her own father, the previous king.
Nobles would naturally find her position troubling... Vorbuk sighed as he thought about it.
As he neared the princess's palace he leapt from the shadows. His dark wolf figure rushing forward. Attention from the servants was drawn in at the sound of his howl as he approached.
"Your Majesty!" A servant called out to him as he rushed up towards the front of the princess's palace.
Vorbuk flinched as he halted in his tracks just after passing by the servant who had tried calling out to him. Intense heat seemed to suck the air out of him as he got close to the doors. Fire and smoke covered the palace as if the fire wanted to swallow the palace up. The roaring and crackling of the flames could be heard taunting him.
Thud!
His heart ached as he thought of the princess trapped inside the palace. There was no sign of her scent outside the palace which meant she was still inside. She had not gotten out before the flames engulfed her palace. It was best to assume she was still hiding within her own room inside. The princess did not go out much once he'd taken the throne because it was not safe for her to be on her own.
"Your Majesty, perhaps it is best to step back! The fire is too strong!" He could hear the sound of the servants pleading him to step safely away from the fire.
Knowing that it was the servants duty to take care of the situation did not matter to him. He could feel the pounding in his chest as he ignored their voices and jumped through the blazing fire surrounding the palace doorway.
Heat from the fire felt like it was swallowing him whole. Breathing became difficult almost instantly as he landed inside the building. Smoke seemed to make things difficult for any average mortal to see. It would have been difficult for anyone to escape the fire that was eating the palace whole. Things were easier for Vorbuk to see due to his shadow element. Every day felt like he lived within a world of fog as his body was adapt to seeing inside the shadow dimension, a dimension that was near impossible for others to experience.
The wolf's eyes flashed with a red glow as he looked around. If he went to the princess's room it would be possible to find her. Determining his destination he moved quickly without detour. Time was something that he did not have to waste if he wanted to save her. It was difficult to breathe and she had been inside the palace since the fire began. He worried she must be suffering the longer he delayed rescue.
Finding her room the wolf quickly transformed into his human form.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
BAMMM! THUD!
After slamming his shoulder against the door a few times he broke it open. Swinging open from its framework breaking the door slammed flat against the wall.
"Princess Isis!" Vorbuk called out for her while coughing and trying to catch his breath.
It was easier for him to see compared to others but the thin air was still more then enough to make him feel exhaustion. Sweeping his eyes across the room he tried to locate the princess. His gaze slowly landing on the floor near her chair. The princess had fallen down unconscious from the struggle to breathe.
Her eyelids seem to struggle at the call of his voice, her vision was hazy as she tried to see who called out for her, "Vor...buk..?"
"Hang on, princess." Vorbuk said to her while wrapping his arms around the princess's weak body. He could vaguely hear her breathing beside his ear as her arms wrapped around his neck. The grip was weak and almost instinctual for her in the state she was in. He knew that well, yet he could not help but blush slightly at how close she was to him.
Whooosh!
A dark figure rushed pass them from the shadows. He could not make out who it was. It was certain to Vorbuk that they were involved in the current situation. Not a sound was made from their footsteps as if they had trained themselves to move like an assassin.
"Show yourself!" Vorbuk shouted out at them but the figure did not reveal themselves. Unsure of where they went it was impossible for him to follow. There was also the princess who needed to be taken out of the burning palace currently being held in his arms.
[ Warning! ] [ Warning! ] [ Warning! ]
[ Princess Isis is getting weak from the smoke in the surroundings. Suggest leaving quickly! ]
"I do not need you to remind me." Vorbuk grit his teeth at the sound of the voice calling out to him.
Crr...Crrraack!
Boommm!
The ceiling above cracked from the beams being weakened by the flames. Everything above began crashing down over them. Vorbuk felt his heart pounding hard in his chest as he threw himself over the princess. Her weak body being slammed against the ground beneath him as he tried to cover for her on impact.
From outside the palace the servants gathered all witnessed the palace roof collapsing. Startled they all called out for Vorbuk, "Your Majesty!" "His Majesty is currently inside!"
"Someone summon Daryl! Where is Ashley and Prince Leo? We need help dealing with this situation right now! His Majesty is trapped inside somewhere!" One of the servants desperately tried to take charge of the situation.
Under the rubble inside the palace Vorbuk could hear the panic in the screams of his servants outside. He was trapped under the burning rubble from the ceiling above. The princess was trapped beneath him and he could feel wounds on his back bleeding. A stream of blood running down his forehead from somewhere on his head. There was too much pain for him to comprehend exactly where the wound was when his entire body ached to such extent.
Crrr..Crrreakk!
Every motion Vorbuk made he could feel the rubble moving above him. He would have tried to force his way out if he was alone. The problem was that he did not know if he could protect the princess from the rubble if he tried and something went wrong.
What do I do now..? Vorbuk pondered as his body shivered from the pain and loss of blood.
