Kaiser was betting a griffin's egg with a bright expression on his face. Where did he get that rare egg?
Vorbuk's gaze paused on the large fertile griffin egg that sat on the table. Every guest was still playing calmly. Rare items often went through Maroon Inn. Nobody was fazed by seeing another rare item placed on the table.
That was not the same for Vorbuk and Prince Leo. Prince Leo did not casually go to places that gambled illegally. It was his first time seeing something so rare treated as if it was a mere toy. The vampire, Kaiser, was not fazed by his own bet in the slightest. It was clear that he had felt no worry in placing the bet.
"Are you interested in rare beasts?" Kaiser's brow raised a bit curiously as he asked. He could see the interested look on Vorbuk's face.
"No," Vorbuk shook his head slightly as he responded and continued to play the game, "I was just a bit curious about the egg is all."
Kaiser smirked and lifted his glass off the table to drink, he always drank when he gambled, "I am a man of chance. I enjoy a risk and even more enjoy the profit won. When it comes to rarities I do not like to consider anything impossible. You just need to know where to look."
Vorbuk thought of something as he listened to Kaiser talk. It seemed the vampire worked with rare items. He also came from Drethia Kingdom.
Is it possible? Vorbuk wondered. There was a rare item that Grand Duke Heket had given him as a gift. It was possible that Kaiser was Grand Duke Heket's connection. He felt the need to be more careful in front of this vampire.
After thinking about it Vorbuk asked, "Do you deal in trades?"
"What?" Kaiser seemed to hesitate before asking Vorbuk, "Are you asking if I will trade rare items with you?"
"Can you two stop talking and play already?" One of the other guests was getting annoyed by their constant conversation during the game.
Kaiser took a playing card from the table and moved it between his fingers back and forth. He was a man of gamble, a man of chance. Curiosity started to consume him. However he could not stand disturbances when he was in conversation with another.
"Aack!"
All it took was a flick from Kaiser's hand. The playing card between his fingers was sent flying through the air. Those thin edges of the card slicing into and planting the card right into the chest of the guest that had so rudely interrupted their conversation.
The guest's body collapsed backwards in his chair. A hissing sound could be heard from the vampire as it pulled the card from its chest.
"Don't interrupt us if you wish to keep those pearly colored fangs inside your mouth. Okay?" Kaiser smiled brightly at the other guest. Others were gathering around to whisper over what had just occurred. He did not care about the onlookers. Word about what Kaiser did quickly spread as they watched.
Vorbuk watched as the guest got up off the floor. With a shaking body the vampire guest fled the room. They left with such speed that one would assume they were terrified of angering Kaiser any further.
Looking around none of the other players at the table said a word about what happened. Watching in silence they continued to play the game. It was normal for people to get hurt or even die on occasion during these games. Dangerous vampires came to Maroon Inn and Kaiser was one of them.
Prince Leo watched them both gamble against each other for a while. Jolting out of his attention on the game when he saw someone familiar across the room. There was another person he knew besides themselves that had come down to the gambling den inside of Maroon Inn.
"What is he doing down here?" Prince Leo muttered to himself as he watched Sebastian enter the room.
Vorbuk flinched when he followed the prince's gaze to where Sebastian stood, walking in their direction the moment their eyes made contact, "Leo."
Prince Leo could feel the desperation behind Vorbuk's voice when he whispered his name, sighing he replied, "I will take care of it."
Why did he come down here by himself? That is dangerous! Prince Leo complained internally.
Vorbuk was left sitting alone at the table with the other guests and Kaiser. The vampire kept casting glances in his direction. There seemed to be a bit of curiosity as Kaiser asked him, "Are you going to tell me what it is you wish to trade for? Or do you have more important matters?"
Is he growing impatient? Vorbuk thought as he felt nervous to hear the vampire repeat the question. He had gotten distracted by the prince.
Thinking about it Vorbuk asked, "Have you ever dealt in trading eggs of a different species?"
Kaiser paused and thought about it, leaning in close to say, "I get rare species all the time. You gotta be a bit more specific."
Vorbuk did not know what to say. He had not expected to come across a trader in rare items including rare fertile beast eggs. Without a specific species in mind he was left wandering in thought. More then trading for a rare egg he wanted to know if this vampire worked with Grand Duke Heket.
"What about rare items," Vorbuk whispered the question, "Such as Blue Phoenix Tears?"
Kaiser seemed to study Vorbuk's reaction when asking the question. Why was he being asked this question? He did not like to speak about clients in his profession. If he was being asked about such a rare item there was a chance that Vorbuk was trying to get information on someone. Though Kaiser did not know who Vorbuk wanted to know more about.
"I have dealt with it in the past. However," Kaiser was honest but refused to speak further details, "I can not get such an item easily."
Vorbuk felt uncomfortable as he felt the need to ask, "I wonder how such a rare item is able to be found."
Kaiser's eyes seemed to squint a bit with a smile as he replied, "I can get my hands on it. That is all someone in your position needs to know. It is not something that comes cheap. Perhaps after the game I can take you to strike a deal."
"I worry what it might cost me." Vorbuk said with a business smile. He had to force himself to remain calm. The more he spoke to the vampire the more uncomfortable he felt around him. His instincts told him it was a dangerous man.
Kaiser looked around and noticed that the prince had been gone for a while, "It seems your servant has gone off on his own for a while now."
"He will find his way back." Vorbuk felt worried when he heard that comment.
"I really enjoy rare things." Kaiser said while sliding a drink towards Vorbuk with a polite smile, "Care to have a drink with me?"
Vorbuk thought for a second that he heard the vampire sniff him while he took the glass. Lifting the glass towards himself he could see the vampire's smile. It made him feel uncomfortable. Something about it felt cold and eerie. What is Kaiser thinking?
