**Ch13: The Old Diary

"Oh, Ms. Perkins." The lady at the front desk addressed me. "Somebody dropped off an envelope for you."

"Hmm." I hum, confused, taking the envelope from her hand. "Thank you."

"Have a lovely day, Ms. Perkins."

I smiled at her. Afterward, I went inside the elevator, heading to my room. Once I reached the top and got out, I saw Tom there, talking with another Team leader in the hallway. I chose to ignore him and went into my room while opening the brown envelope. Interestingly enough, I pulled out this old black leather diary. Along with it is a professional note card written in this refined writing style.

So I read the note. "Dear Ms. Perkins,

"I heard from someone that you like vampires, so I thought you might find this book to your liking. Perhaps if I am correct, you'll find this to be entertaining.

"Signed anonymously."

Well, that was interesting. Seeing how I had time to spare, I flopped a seat on the couch with a coffee and began reading as a masculine male voice replaced mine.

"I presume if you're reading this, you must be one of us. If you aren't, then maybe you are destined to be one of us. For you see, this diary was solely written for you. Not everyone is granted the opportunity to read such a diary. So let me start by properly greeting you.

"Hello, my dear friend. Unfortunately, I can't give away my name because I've had one too many throughout my time. I know this may sound far-fetched, but I am here to share that this diary is about our Kind, known as vampires.

"It might seem unorthodox to think vampires are real, but I am here to tell you we aren't a myth. Whether you understand this or not, I am going to help sum this up as clearly as I can.

"To make a quick memo, we aren't the undead that solely thrives in the shadows only to feed on innocent blood. No, we are far more superior than that, my friend. We are living and breathing immortals that can't be killed, but we can be detained, or weakened as if we are dead.

"Our bodies are warm-blooded. Not cold, like what you may read in those fictional stories. Real warm blood pumps through our veins and into our living heartbeat. Hence, we enjoy our sunlight.

"Now, we all heal fast from injuries. That's the perk we get from being nonhuman immortals. Also, we are super fast. We can be in a room for one minute and vanish before your eyes at the last second.

"Vampires are Apex predators, and yes, humans are the main food source for us. However, if you're a special human reading this, then do not let that scare you. Please allow me to clarify.

"Some of us are more human compared to others, who might be called bloodthirsty monsters. The ones that are more human-like enjoy the same enrichments as humans. Such as food and drinks that aren't blood, and even entertainment like getting a pet dog. Those vampires have full control over their instincts.

"Now, let's move on to the more deadly vampires. These vampires only view humans as food. They have no care to control their instincts. Those vampires crave the hunt. Human food is what they can't stand.

"Another thing to know is there are many different species of vampires to list. One species is called Lights because their eyes are sensitive to sunlight, which is what I am. Oftentimes, we wear shades or go out during the evening when the sun's rays are less intense. We're the gentlest type of vampire. Since that is covered, shall we continue?

"Believe it or not, some young vampires don't even realize they're vampires. I know what you're thinking, "how is that possible?" Well, it's possible because we can breed with humans. Sometimes it happens after a shameful one-night fling, which is disgraceful to do such adultery.

"This is when a woman can get pregnant by a vampire. That nonhuman infant grows up to be raised by its mortal human mother. The predator she raises isn't aware of what he or she is because the youngster is being human-raised if the father isn't present during the pregnancy development. The infant vamp baby doesn't sense the dad to comprehend whether he or she is a vampire or a vampiress. A growing infant always knows its parents.

"Vampires are very dominant, which is partly why only males teach a young vampire or vampiress to be one. Eventually, once they reach 18 years of age is when they recognize they're different because their instincts kick in to sense their Kind and their father.

"Let's move on to the things all species have in common. We have gifts or powers, some might say. Vampires have only one or two gifts. No vampire has been given more than that. These gifts can be like mind reading, weather control, levitating objects, dream walkers, which are rare, and the ability to create ice, lightning, or fire. You name it, it's likely a vampire can do it.

"All vampires have illuminating red irises around their pupils. This red eye color can be controlled to look like a normal eye color. Unless they're in the mood to feed or something else is making them trigger it. Others may not even care to stop it, or they haven't learned how to control it. All vampires are dominant, and stronger than any vampiress.

"Now moving on again; some vampires are destined to have mates. No later than 10,000 years old, a vampire will dream of his mate. Any time he falls asleep, he will dream about her. Now bear with me when I say that a mate can even be a human female. This is why I said, maybe you're that special human reading this because you are destined to be a vampiress. That being the truth, and you are indeed human. Then allow me to further explain.

"Likely, before you were born, your mate had dreamt about you while he waited for you to be born. On the day of your birth, he comes for you to raise you himself. Unfortunately, your parents think you are dead. However, it's less painful for you since they're only human, and you will live an immortal life with your mate. Raising you makes that connection grow greater until you're able to be turned into your true self.

"He'll do this during the brightest blue moon because all human mates are born within the time frame of the brightest blue moon. Since it only happens every thousand years, that is the only time vampires can transform humans into a vampire or vampiress if you're destined or granted to be one of us.

"I know it can be a bit mind-boggling, but that's how it works. Too many apex predators can't be out-numbered in the human world. Unfortunately, this wait for you to be born can drive him mad.

"Yes, I say him because vampires are the only ones who know their mate, even if she's a vampiress. He has to be the one who tells her this information. It's easier for vampiress to understand, and for those who have been raised by their mate will have a better comprehension of it.

"However, a human female who wasn't raised by her mate might not find this information believable. For a human to learn this might find it harder to understand.

"If that is the case, it means something happened to your mate or perhaps he could no longer handle the long wait for your birth. Therefore he put himself into a detained sleep to always see you in his dreams. Now, if he hides from his family, this prevents them from waking him up during each blue moon.

"Therefore, his family is left to locate you because now only his mate can find him to wake him. Be on the alert, he'll be extremely ravenous. His instincts will be over-stimulated depending on how long he's been sleeping. If he's the type that only views humans as food, then his feeding frenzy might be worse.

"Now, it's not a worry on your part being his human mate. His family likely put you somewhere safe, and he'll know you, even if you don't know him. After all, it would be devastating if he were to feed on his mate. Just let him feed on someone, and you'll be fine. You have more control over him than you realize. If your family raised you, I'd advise you not to bring him to any family reunions or weddings.

"Anyways, other vampires aren't destined to have a mate. Those who aren't destined can steal another vampire's human mate by making her love him rather than loving her mate. It's a cruel torture for any vampire to not have the heart of their mate. Sometimes, vampires do this sort of twisted game because they are enemies, or perhaps that vampire might want his mate because of the gifts she'll get once she is turned. There could be countless reasons why any unmated vampire would do such a thing. Now, my friend, that is all I can share for the time being. Good luck, and I humbly welcome you to the Coven."
