Learning and Stealing walking together.
After infiltrating the city for a week, learning the way to be and to do like the citizens, Kanmuri lived better and bolder as a rich kid, stealing from the rich pockets he found right to walk by.
He first maintained a low key since his head has a bounty, and even if he was stronger than a genin he just can't fight a shinobi team no matter how weak their village is and even if he deals with one it will just make the merchant contract a stronger ninja village.
As Kanrui learned about the city's social and power structure he discovered that the merchant who stole his home was just a facet of a major criminal organization and he just did it without letting his superiors know.
Kanrui searched his past house surroundings and recovered the scrolls his mother left for him after seeing he was safe to do so. After reading them he discovered he lacks the knowledge to learn complex jutsus.
This made him buy some medical books and "pick up" others who aren't on sale including a few C and D rank ninjutsu.
While entering the city Kanrui forged his citizenship saying he was the son of a merchant who got robbed and escaped with only a few valuables (he poached) that also learned kendo with a samurai.
After his stealing spree, he noticed that some ninjas in Kiri clothing started to appear near places he would target like medical clinics or medicine shops, even if he stole gold and inexpensive small equipment and copy most of the books without letting more clues than a broken lock in the scenes they still noticed what he was aiming for books, or maybe Kiri ninjas are just in relation with the medical industry and are caution abut it.
Anyway, Kanrui had enough medical text to learn about tenketsu he had to do this since none of the jutsu manuals explained them nearly enough to train without guidance, after a week learning it and testing on some drunken mobs its safety, he finally was able to study the clan and Kumo jutsu the BPO mother left to him.
Transformation, body flicker and its water variations, water and earth clone, misty killing technique knowledge, water prison, water dragon, hydration technique knowledge, thunder and lightning needles, water substitution jutsu, electromagnetic killing, and the thunder chakra bukijutsus (kunai/shuriken/senbon + "raikiri kunai").
Kanrui also remembered the fewer hand signals jutsu like discharge and shadow clone, but the last one is very unsafe to try at this stage, no matter how OP it is.
After learning the basics about tenketsu, he tried to control his body and mental energy to understand it's "wavelengths" and learn Yin Yang release but after a while, he realized this way to learn yin and yang release is rather difficult or at least time demanding and let it to a future moment.
Then he purchased some material to produce electricity, by friction, a magnetic coil, and a crude battery, also tried to make some explosives since explosive talisman is hard and expensive to buy.
Crude gunpowder needs too much to have an effect and nitro takes too long to make and is too unstable without the right material, he ended up making some sealed TNT sticks but knowing the fact that people can launch fireballs and electricity on it and it will be Game Over isn't reassuring.
Fortunately, after a week of water walking and chakra transformation training he successfully used a weak lightning needle Jutsu since its power depends more on how good the chakra form and nature of the user is or how many chakras are put into the jutsu. After more training and learning Electromagnetic killing waves jutsu and how to use the lightning imbued kunai and shuriken he learned what chakra channels are used when using thunder chakra ninjutsu with those hand signs.
After testing its safety on more thugs he tried and proved it using the Raikiri kunai, which is a weaker one hand sign jutsu where the user covers his kunai with thunder chakra while part of the lightning chakra stimulates the arm using it, and the discharge jutsu who liberate thunder chakra around the body shocking anything around, the two of them being Konoha jutsus he remembered from "Naruto".
After another month of training, learning that something happened to Konoha's hokage, Kanrui already learned all water ninjutsu less than the water dragon and was about to use the Flesh Transforming Hability (Liquidizing or Hydration technique In Eng. Ver.) for the first time.
"Use chakra as if it's the nerves connecting the tenketsu and chakra channels in this way... Let your body mass that isn't water turn into water chakra... and use it to control the body when liquidized... Thunder chakra will affect the nerves or the chakra flow impeding the liquidized body to respond if the user doesn't have enough chakra control as it will be like if the person is in a body imprisoning genjutsu..."
"No way, this is really a powerful Yin-Yang like combining ninjutsu huh?" Kanrui says when he realized the implication of controlling the water body with only a chakra "mind" was basically a weaker black zetsu.
Finally learning what to do and confirming with the database he collected when using the other ninjutsu, Kanmuri used the Liquidizing Technique in a bathtub and played for a while until he noticed that the wooden bathtub was being corroded by his hydro body, which remembered him of the 2° Mizukage hydration technique who is part oil.
"So unlike normal water, my liquidizing technique turns me into acidic water huh? Probably related to the Kaku clan physic."
'Also while I have water in my body even if someone cut me in half I'll only lose the water and some chakra and the water who was cut can be reabsorbed... Sure a powerful technique to have in the land of water."
"And for maintaining clothes after the transformation or I have to transform it with my chakra so it can be turned water along my body or created it from my chakra, I'm sure this is getting near the true yin-yang release..."
After trying a few easier uses of the technique, Kanmuri tested how corrosive his water was and ended up discovering that the chakra of the Kaku probably kekkei-genkai on his body affected the hydration technique liquid like the second Mizukage "boiling" technique.
'A digestive kekkei genkai or just an alien physique? Don't matter it's surely useful, probably even can absorb the chakra of what is in my stomach... And with the hydration technique, I can sure turn my body into a giant water monster to absorb enemies, even if it's gross... I'll just think that is a transfusion rather than an "eating".'

Three water clones are using a whip while Kanrui uses HT and body flicker to escape.
Now looking easier than when he started, he can remember that he had to endure most of the whips with the HT hardening, and was even cut a few times he forgot to use HT.
Suddenly he turned his liquidized hands into blades and spun cutting the water clones alongside the whips.
'It's done, I'm done with this.' He thought that training with only water clones isn't making him stronger anymore and the hydration technique let him have confidence in progressing his plans in this not soo new world.
First, he bought some information, finally find a good artisan, and made a steel and copper cable with a spike solving part of the hydration technique failure in combat since if you're grounded the electricity will choose to flow in the cable than stay in his body, but without fuinjutsu knowledge and no way to bought a sealing scroll, he couldn't bring much with him.
He learned while in disguise that a group of bandits and pirates are living free because they only attack the other countries' ships and since he was in need of some "improvers" since the thugs got shy after some of them got missing while helping him create a genjutsu.
At night he sneaked into the pirate's base, an old warehouse in an abandoned dock.
Passing behind the feet of the guards, since the construction was made on top of the water he spied into the building, few people are knocked by alcohol, and others are laughing and feasting while drinking, a bulky man seen to be their leader, probably the vice in command since they don't look to care about him enough, two are guarding a corridor entrance who probably lead to the captain room and treasure.
Inside was a man looking average, except he had a bald head with a scar and an eyepatch, he was having fun with two courtesans, Kanrui inspected the ambient for some minutes and after thinking about how much class someone needs to have to pay courtesans just to laugh to praise himself, he decided to interrupt the moment with his presence.
Passing through the gaps in the wooden floor he appeared putting to sleep the two courtesans with a hand knife.
"Tell me more about how I'm better than those noble bastards again... why did you stop the massage," the captain said until to stop when the woman who was massaging fell on him.
"Uh, you finally can't resist my charm? But I'm not paying more..." The captain suddenly rolled and attacked behind with a big blade just to hit the woman, cutting her chest open.
'He's fast, but this isn't enough for training' Kanrui thought while he used body flicker to touch the man's head and put him into a genjutsu who is just a mental shock.
After the attack, the guards in the corridor seemed to be disturbed and yell for help, Kanrui thought he don't need many lab rats and prepared to kill them.
Making hand seals for the Eletromagnect Killing jutsu after he used some chakra to make water with his Liquidizing Technique as a knock of Water Release: Wild Water Wave, he used combining ninjutsu with both C rank jutsus.
When the pirates who could fight opened the door Kanrui shoot the Wild water wave from his mouth and while they screamed in pain from being sprayed with a wave of acid he used Electromagnet Killing to fry them.
After knocking the ones who don't faint, he cut their motor nerves and perforated their tenketsus with a mixture of chakra scalpel with Liquidizing blade sleeve technique.
Then her tried healing the wounds imitating his concepts of a Yang escape, but most of the time it just made their flesh contorts, after some hours he was about to go out of the chakra and test bodies.
So he killed the pirates who stayed alive and discarded their bodies in a way people can't gather information from them, dissolving and absorbing the water back...
With this act, he felt like he recovered some energy as if he just ate a full meal, he felt a bit uneasy, but as a rational person, he realized there was no difference between absorbing chakra transformed from people and eating things that grew from the soil, isn't like he was M. Boo who turn people in living chocolate and eat them "alive".
After making sure no clues have been left beside the fact that 2 women are still alive and departed with the Ryo and jewels the pirates gathered.
"What a beautiful moon," Kanrui said looking at the seal fully appearing in the night sky.
'I need to master at least a healing ninjutsu to transplant those eyes. Then after that, I can use them to gather the knowledge needed for creating those techniques I need... I have some years to get those things... but is better to do it sooner than later...'
He reviewed the process of killing common people with ease, feeling the mindset strengthening he smiled and thought about what he planned to do now.
So after thinking about how fail-proof the plans he made are, he made a merchant shit itself with his newly created Hell Vision genjutsu + a transformation into a water-spirit/ghost-like creature made his mind break from the fear.
After having his vendetta he used some money to prepare things he could need and departed towards the land of hot water in a ship.
While in the sea he passed the days trying to use healing ninjutsu in fishes, now imitating the physical/life energy with chakra, and slowly understanding how to make it heal things without killing them...

Two weeks later, Kanmuri was "testing the waters" inside a hot spring while training his water sense, peeking at everyone in contact with the thermals in a 3km radius.
Fortunately for them, he can only feel their chakra but he slowly learned that the hydration technique can read the memory on the water, but he can't tell if it was because of the nature chakra or just chakra in the water.
But was clear that the more chakra someone exhales, the more information the jutsu can gather from their contact with it, since the few ninjas who he noticed in his sensing area appeared much more clear and detailed, even with some vibration in the water alike sound waves.
He also discovered his horn can work as a chakra antenna, but since he doesn't know any sensing techniques that work without contact with water he can only use it to sense when people use their chakra near him but he felt that he will get better in sensing chakras training it to work like a sonar.
