Chapter 19: Neutral Ground.

Olivia’s POV.

“Sorry, I’m almost done.” I apologized to Pauly, who seemed lighter after his lunch with Ellie.

I kept finding myself distracted throughout the day as I wrote the report of the findings for Tolbert that he had demanded that I sent to him by the end of the day. My mind was evenly divided between Marcell, worried with if he was just saying he wasn’t upset at me, and Pauly if he was okay with me crossing the line.

“Can you stop and finish it tomorrow?” Pauly asked from the doorway.

The sun outside my windows was fully on its way down, casting a golden hue across my white office. The firm outside was quiet as most everyone, including Tolbert, had left for the day. Leaving Pauly and me alone.

“I’m almost done. I just need to sort through the last few months of reports and make sure I didn’t miss anything—”

“Thank you… by the way. For forcing me into lunch with Eleanor.” Pauly quietly stated as he hesitantly stepped into the office.
