Chapter 14: Ghosts of the Past

“Loki?” I asked when he didn’t move, hand still inches from the doorknob.

“This was a bad idea,” he muttered, retracting his hand.

“Maybe not.” I pushed past him and opened the door. “I could learn a lot about her by seeing her room. It could help,” I explained.

I glanced at Loki, his face a stone mask. He didn’t even seem to register that I had just half agreed to work on his case again. There was definitely more to the disappearance of his sister than he was letting on.

When he didn’t try to stop me, I went into Persephone’s room and flipped on the light. I looked around quickly, taking in the four-poster bed with the pinky, lacey canopy and the purple and pink princess duvet.

Her walls were covered in posters of fairies, unicorns, and mermaids. It was like stepping into a little girl’s room, a little girl who still had dreams of becoming a fairy princess.
