Beta Howe brought me to my old bedroom. He locked the door behind me. I glanced around at my old things. When I’d left, I left everything behind – all my clothes, all my belongings. I’d changed so much since the last time I stood in this room.
The pictures on the walls of me with Ash and Caleb, clothing more suited to a teenager and not a professional adult, even the stuffed wolf that sat on my red and black bedspread. None of it seemed like mine anymore.
I picked up the stuffed wolf, a reddish color, like my own wolf. Absently, I stroked the wolf’s ears as I went to the bedroom window. I pulled the curtain back and groaned, rolling my eyes.
Not only had Caleb nailed the window shut, but he’d also installed burglar bars on the outside. Locked in, there was no easy escape this time.
A knock on the door startled me and I dropped the stuffed wolf on the floor.
“Gen, are you okay?” Ash asked through the closed door.
