Pack members lingered around the mansion. No one talked to me. Whenever someone caught my eye, they looked away quickly and hurried off in other directions. It wasn’t the warmest welcome, but I hadn’t expected much.
All the pack knew was that I had deserted them and now I was being welcomed back with Caleb’s blessing.
I wasn’t interested in reconnecting, though. I wanted to confirm Ash’s intel about Caleb’s former mates and his daughters.
Slipping out the back door, I sniffed around the foundation of the mansion. There wasn’t an interior door to a basement. I knew there was a basement, but as far as most pack members were concerned, it was sealed off. Ash had told me otherwise.
In a back corner of the mansion, I sniffed out a bulkhead overgrown with shrubs and covered with fallen leaves. It didn’t look like it had been covered to be concealed. The shrubs around it hadn’t been maintained and it took attention away from the bulkhead.
A clever ploy.
