Chapter 43: The Calm Before the Storm

I slipped out of the penthouse early the next morning. Loki wasn’t stupid enough to have me followed, not when things between us were still shaky.

I knew he wanted to keep an eye on me but I wasn’t in need of his protection. I had a police force behind me and Ash. It wasn’t like Loki was the only one who wanted to keep me safe.

Zinnia and Captain Carson were waiting for me at the police station. I’d made it a habit to check in with them every day and go over our plans and any new information we’d gathered. When I arrived this morning, the station was in a frenzy.

There were vans parked out front and the gun lockers were open. Cops were putting on bulletproof vests and checking their radios.

The raid was happening.

Zinnia grabbed my arm the second I stepped into the precinct and pulled me into Captain Carson’s office.

“Today?” I asked, a bolt of anxiety rippling through me. My knees trembled and I grabbed the back of the nearest chair.
