Chapter 20: The Perfect Girl

Riley’s POV

“And since then, nothing has happened between you?”

Cleo's expression is incredulous. But she looks at me as if she thinks I'm hiding something.

I sigh and finish stretching as I shake my head.

“Nothing. And it doesn't have to happen. From that point on, it's clear to me that what we have is a mere business matter,” I affirm.

My best friend's gaze remains fixed on me, but she finally shrugs. Even so, I know she doesn't quite believe what I'm saying.

I decide not to give her a chance to question me further. Without waiting, I start running through Central Park, jogging at a slow pace until the world around me transforms.

Cleo follows me and Hugo does the same. He accompanies us at a safe distance, so as to give us some privacy, but without losing sight of us.
