Chapter 31: Distraction

Riley’s POV

“Still nothing?” Theo asks.

I stare at my cell phone. The screen is blank. No new messages, no calls.

“Nothing,” I answer sighing.

It's been two days since we returned to New York from L.A.. Since then, I haven't heard from Cameron. I've called him but he never answers and doesn't read my messages.

Anxiety is eating me up inside. I keep remembering the woman I saw in that room, the Baroness. Her look full of hate is still engraved in my brain and no matter how hard I try, I can't get her out of my mind.

I also can't get over the fact that I was inside a room I wasn't supposed to be in. Cameron surely overlooked that fact at the time of our farewell because of the tension with his grandmother, but it's something I have to explain to him somehow, I just don't know how yet.

Still, it would be better to think about it if I actually knew something about him. If we could talk, I'd make up any plausible excuse.

“Come on, relax. You have to stay calm.”
