Chapter 35: The Truth

Riley’s POV

“Sh*t,” I mutter and bite my lower lip. “I was hoping you wouldn't remember that.”

Cameron looks at me with apparent amusement. But there's something in his eyes, something that makes me feel alert.

It vaguely reminds me of the way Theo looks at me when he analyzes me. He too possesses one of those looks that seems to be able to pierce to the very depths of your being.

“You see. There hasn't been any luck on forgetting that,” he says, clicking his tongue, obviously trying to be funny.

I sigh and lean my elbows on the table. First and foremost, I have to stay calm, and I especially want to stay in character.

So I approach him and look at him with complicity.

“Okay, I'll be honest with you,” I murmur.

“You better be,” he replies jocularly.

I nod and look at him carefully, as if I were a child who has to confess that she has eaten the whole jar of cookies.

“The truth is that I forced the door.”
