Chapter 41: The Last Escape

Riley’s POV

“What about what you said about us?” I ask Theo. I can't help the grimace that curves my lips. “What you've said about what happened... A mere sexual desire.”

Theo looks at me carefully. We are both on the bed, lying on our sides with our hands clasped together. He releases my hand to push a lock of hair away from my face.

“It wasn't merely sexual between us. You know that,” he murmurs.

“Why did you say it then?” I ask in an equally low tone of voice.

“Because I was upset. I can't believe I put you in danger like this because I couldn't contain my desire to be with you,” he replies.

“If it's because of my attachment to you, you were going to put me in danger anyway. I've been in love with you for a long time,” I admit.

He laughs.

“Oh, you are?”

I nod, feeling my cheeks heat up.

“So... Don't ever say something like that again,” I tap his shoulder and he lets out a groan. “Because we were lost from the beginning anyway.”

Theo sighs. A half smile curves his lips.
