Chapter 20: About to Get Engaged

"Evelyn, you now..."

Sophie Allen had noticed Evelyn Curtis' changes and was unsure what to say.

Evelyn Curtis came from the same village as her, their parents were just ordinary workers and their living conditions were quite average.

They had grown up together, so Sophie understood her situation quite well.

However...

If she was not mistaken, Evelyn Curtis must have strayed off the right path.

"Charlotte, look at this watch. Isn't it beautiful? It costs only 380,000." Evelyn Curtis, pretending that Sophie knew nothing about watches, deliberately stretched out her manicured hand revealing her slender wrist.

She knew Sophie's boyfriend, Ryan Richard, was a rich and handsome young man. She had met Ryan before, though he was quite handsome and charming, he was nothing compared to Justin Battleson.

They were worlds apart.

Moreover, if Ryan was generous, why would Sophie willingly take up the tough and tiring summer job!

Hearing Evelyn's words, Sophie frowned slightly.

Her face turned serious and she spoke earnestly:

"Evelyn, you became the head of a hotel in just two years. You are very capable and shouldn't be blinded by these superficialities."

They were friends, so Sophie wanted to persuade her.

At that, Evelyn Curtis burst into laughter.

"Hee hee hee hee hee..." She could not help but cover her mouth with her hand, laughing so hard that she was shaking.

Sophie looked at the happily laughing woman in front of her, puzzled.

"You misunderstood, Charlotte. He's my boyfriend, not a sugar daddy or any of that nonsense. We're getting engaged soon." Evelyn Curtis covered her face playfully as if she was shy.

However, she was sneering in her heart.

Sophie was truly naive and foolish. Without relying on other means, how could she possibly land the position of head hostess?

"Boyfriend?" Sophie looked surprised and scratched her head awkwardly, hurriedly apologising, "I'm sorry, Evelyn. I misunderstood."

"Oh, it's okay! It's just that after you went to Emperor City to study, we didn't meet as often, so I didn't share some things with you."

Evelyn's eyes flashed with shrewdness as she looked up to drink some red wine, beaming triumphantly, "He's the person in charge of resort development. I've been in contact with him for a long time in Cornelia. In fact, I didn't expect him to confess his feelings so soon, let alone take me to Emperor City."

Looking at Evelyn, Sophie could see she was a woman completely in love.

"So that's how it is, congratulations on finding your happiness." Sophie gave her a light smile, sincerely expressing her good wishes.

Evelyn felt like she was a good actress - not pursuing a career in acting seemed like a waste of talent.

She had given up her dream of going to acting school because she had no money. But now...

With Justin Battleson around, could she be cast as the lead actress?

Thinking about this, her eyes lit up.

"Charlotte, when we set the date for the engagement, I'll send you an invitation." Evelyn's words were filled with pride.

"Alright." Sophie nodded.

Seeing her calm demeanor and the absence of envy or jealousy, Evelyn couldn't help but feel a bit anxious.

"By the way, where's your boyfriend? Ryan Richard, that's his name right?" Evelyn reminded intentionally, "He should come along when you attend the event."

Upon hearing this, Sophie's beautiful face turned pale.

Even though she had tried her best to look calm, after all, that was her first love of two years.

"We...broke up." The woman's lips were tightly pressed, her tone indifferent, "He cheated with Emily Allen."

"Oh my God! Isn't Emily your step-sister?" Evelyn was taken aback and quickly asked, "It's not because of what happened that night, is it?"
