"Lucas?"
"What are you doing here?" his cold blue eyes pierced her black eyes.
"I came here to learn more about the kingdom, sir Lucas." Layla replied bowing. Layla felt warm at how Lucas shouted at the guard but it didn't last long.
" mister , don't you think you just wasted your strength on this little trash? Please conserve your energy. The kingdom needs it more than she does. " Lucas smirked.
'that evil brat' Layla thought.
" however, she has permission to go around the kingdom for a while. So ,she could go in." he finished.
" I am sorry, sir Lucas. I shall conserve my strength for greater good." the guard replied and made way for both of them.
" I didn't know you could study. Isn't a girl's brain a trash?" Lucas snickered.
" I am sorry, sir Lucas but I am afraid I can. I have been observing the records of the scholars when his highness conducted experiments on me. It was self taught." Layla smiled.
Lucas smirked.' interesting'
Layla followed Lucas into the library . She stilled at how big the library was. The book shelves were wooden and reached the ceiling. Layla remembered watching highest tower in her world. Her neck ached as she looked at the ceiling. At the center were few tables and chairs but what caught her attention was a study near a window.
"that's my spot. Why don't you take the far end of the room? That way people around you could be happy" Lucas appeared behind her carrying a book . Layla squinted at the title.
' Greek mythology'
" wow , I love Greek mythology. I didn't know you were interested in that. " Layla looked up at Lucas. His blue eyes widened and reflected her . " um… sorry , I shall leave you to your study , sir Lucas." Layla bowed and turned around.
" wait! You can read it?" Lucas was comprehending of how she can read the ancient language of the Greeks. 'This sure will be a breakthrough. But how? She wasn't taught, was she?'
Layla clicked her tongue. 'shit! I messed up!. I didnt know Greek was an untranslated language'
"You see, sir Lucas. I just guessed it. I just told what came to my mind. I am sorry I can't read" Layla bowed. 'Bad excuse '
"No. I know who tell the truth and who don't" Lucas took a dangerous step toward her. Layla stepped back.
"Sir Lucas?"
"Come with me!" He yanked her by her hand. Layla swallowed up. 'this isn't what I planned.'
Layla sighed and followed him. She thought she would be presented again in front of the king but her eyes widened when she realised where they stopped.
"this is.....". "Come on in. " Lucas pulled her into his room.
"take a seat. I want you to do something." He pulled a old tattered book from his drawer and stepped in front of her.
"I - told-you-to-take-a-seat" he spelled each word. She reluctantly took the nearby seat.
His room was a lot bigger than hers. Why would he bring her to his room? Wasn't the library a best place?
"Sir Lucas? May I ask why am I here?" Layla tried to cover her frustration. She just has a week before she would start training. She need to know about this world before she steps into it.
"Here! Read this for me!"
Layla held the book with hesitant hands. She peered at the words.
' The world will rise with the war
That destroys lives will take hold
Until the return of the souls
There will be no good'
Lucas was leaning from behind the chair, his hands loosely supported over the chair. He peered at her. Layla turned to look at Lucas.
"I can't read this, sir Lucas. I am sorry it's beyond my knowledge" Layla lied, she can't risk herself for being the reason to start a war.
Lucas looked at her eyes. "you are lying! Haven't I told you I know who lies?" He pushed the chair angrily, flipping Layla out of her seat. She scraped her knee. Layla closed her eyes in pain.
Soon, it healed. "Sir Lucas....." Layla trailed off.
"What! DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE SOME VALUE JUST BECAUSE YOU COULD HEAL AND READ?" Lucas kicked her in the gut. Layla sprawled across the floor.
"For goodness sake, you are just a dog. I felt a little pity when you were at the prison. Now I know you just think you can fool us, don't you?" Lucas scoffed. He stepped toward Layla who was cocooning herself.
He pulled his feet back to kick again. "LUCAS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" A voice boomed.
Layla realised the voice and breathed in relief. "Brother. What makes you visit my room?" Lucas turned and stood in front of Layla.
"You, what the heck are you doing? Is this how you treat your sister?" he snarled.
"Sorry brother, she disobeyed and lied.i was just punishing her for her action." Lucas shrugged. Layla slowly got up, her hand in her stomach.
Unlike other injuries, it was taking time to heal. "Sir Liam. I am glad to be in your presence" Layla smiled through the pain. She bowed 90 degrees.
Her eyes with new fire.
'Suck it up, Adeena. You just need to find a way out and it will be all over'
