“If this is real, then why are you doing this?” She asked. “Just have them release me. I’ll be with my mother and…” Amullette trailed off as she noted the sad look in his eyes. “They are not going to release me, are they?”

“Your parole comes with conditions,” he said.

“What conditions?”

“I cannot tell you much,” he said. “I only know part of it, and even that much won’t make much sense.”

“Tell me what you know.” Amullette watched as Kroan struggled with what to tell her. “Please, people have left me in the dark for my entire life and it led to me being here.”

Kroan swallowed, nodding. “Your parents were trying to protect you. They didn’t want you to know how cruel, and ugly, and heartless this world could be,” Kroan said.
