Her mother’s health began to falter soon after Daven’s departure. Amullette neglected all of her duties towards the colony for several weeks to care for her personally. Passing many of her duties onto Avia who did them well and without complaint. She sat with her mother and studied every detail of her face as she slept, willing herself to memorize everything. She remembered her mother younger, vibrant and full of life. She remembered her brother and father by her side. They had all been full of so much strength.
She cried as she let herself remember that horrific morning. Waking up to the thunderous bombing; the floor shifting beneath her, the soldiers coming after her, chasing her onto the balcony that had been her sanctuary.
She remembered the feel of the morning dew on the grass seeping through her clothes. She remembered the sight of Sialianna, holding a weapon to her father’s head and firing.
Her mother woke up to the sound of her crying.
