After three years in prison without trial, Amullette is given the opportunity for parole if she agrees to raise a stolen child named Mikaya, as her own. Another condition of parole is marriage to a high-ranking soldier of the Universal. As fate would have it, her selected spouse is her ex-fiancé, Admiral Semaj Kroan. Adjusting to her new life is easier than she expected as she falls in love with Admiral Kroan and adores the little girl the Universal has asked her to raise. Kroan shook his head. “Amullette there is no way the Universal will let her leave.” 


“I know,” Amullette said and looked at him intently. 


“Amullette you can not be serious. You are pregnant, you were just paroled, and the Elders are on the verge of giving you a full pardon. Stop talking they could be listening to us right now.”


“Avia gave me something to block or conversation.” Amullette handed him the pin and he looked at it nodding. 


“We’ll figure something out. But, I don’t want you to get any more involved,” Kroan said. “We’ll go to the palace tomorrow to check on the colony and we can discuss what to do.” 


“Avia said my uncle told her that I should call Devestion,” Amullette relayed. 


“Shit!” Kroan said. “I just talked to his dark ass to get in touch with Daven.” 


“Dark?” Amullette asked. She’d rarely heard Kroan swear before and he’d managed to swear twice in one breath in reference to Devestion.
