Chapter 64: Amullette in Labor

Amullette woke up to a slight contraction. She sat up and took in several breaths. Kroan woke up beside her.

“What is wrong?”

“A contraction, I think.”

Kroan immediately got up and called for a doctor. The doctor came to the room and examined Amullette.

“You’re in labor,” he said with a smile.

“What? It’s too early,” Amullette said worried.

“Just a little bit.” The doctor said. “I will start you on an IV drip that will stop your contractions long enough for us to prepare a labor and delivery room for you.”

“Where is that?” Amullette looked at Kroan anxious.

“It is on the other side of the facility.” The doctor said. “But…”

“No.” Amullette interrupted. “I don’t want to be away from Mikaya. Can I have a bed in her room?” Amullette asked. She knew it was an extraordinarily unreasonable request, but she could not leave Mikaya’s side.

“I don’t know,” the doctor said, and his smile faltered. “Let me get that IV started and we’ll see what we can do.”
