We arrived on Windrun  without incident in the middle of the night. Mack carried Kalon  in his arms and held my hand as we walked through dark back allies to a safe house. A woman with flaming red hair and sleepy green eyes opened the door.


“It is about time.” Her voice was rich and throaty and she smiled motioning us in. “Your clothes arrived from Rikar, another colony on Venus, last week.” 


She looked Mack over as if he were a long lost friend. She took a sleeping Kalon  in her arms and guided us through the small house. I knew that she noticed me but did not acknowledge me as she spoke to Mack about the package. I stayed quiet, not sure if I was required to speak.


“Joe just fell asleep and he has an early shift so I do not want to wake him,” she explained. “You all can sleep here. There is only one bed so it will be a tight squeeze but there is a private bathroom just there.” She placed Kalon  in the bed and pointed to the bathroom.
