A/N: An extra chapter today guys! This is 1 chapter out of the 5 chapters I owe you guys. (Debt: 4 chapters)
Knowing that he was feeling down Amayah didn't argue with him any further and changed the topic. "Let me help you bandage the wound. Please endure it for a while."
Nolan narrowed his eyes. "And if I can't endure it?"
Faced with his taunting, Amayah could no longer hold herself back from snapping: "Then you'll only make things worse for yourself! I don't get it – you're not a rat from the sewers, so why do you insist on living amidst filth and darkness?"
Nolan could scarcely believe his ears. There was a long pause before he roared at the top of his lungs, "Amayah Young, you dare speak to me like that?!"
Amayah was out of the bathroom by then.
However, tracking her with his acute hearing, he stormed out after her–and stumbled over the threshold of the doorway.
"Ah–Careful!" Amayah stepped forward, and managed to catch him in time.
Nolan was so close to her that her scent invaded his senses, and he froze.
After the car accident, he'd lost everyone. Even his servants, who used to serve him loyally, despised him.
But there was actually someone who was willing to hold him? This must be his grandfather's revenge.
Nolan calmly peeled her hands off of him, still glaring. "Amayah, you seriously thought a bit of saving would be enough for me to put my trust in you?"
'...But wasn't it you who came charging towards me, Master Nolan?'
Nolan began feeling his way towards the bed angrily. Amayah took a deep breath, reminding herself not to harbor grudges against a blind man. She followed him. When he sat on the bed, she noticed that his lips were pale and sighed unconsciously. He was starving and hurt. Of course he would be ill.
She walked up to him and asked, "Are you hungry?"
Nolan snorted in melancholy and asked, "What could you do about it?"
Amayah answered, "I'll order delivery," as she walked up to the center table and picked up her phone to order takeout.
After ordering some food for the both of them, she looked up from the phone and glanced towards him and noticed the razor slash on his right cheek. The blood was dried up but the cut was still fresh. She didn't want it to get infected; it would only hurt more.
Turning her full body back towards Nolan, she said, "I'm sorry… I only left you for a moment, I'd never imagined something like that could happen."
But Nolan kept staring in empty space, lost in his thoughts.
Amayah walked to the side of the bed and tried turning his face, but just as she laid her hands on him, he violently slapped them away. "Don't touch me!"
Taken aback, she looked at him again. Where was the forlorn melancholy from a moment ago? If anything, he seemed more hostile now!
Seeing this, her sympathy evaporated, and she decided to be blunt with him, "Your grandfather had asked to come by tomorrow. I don't want him to think I've been abusing you."
Nolan swore inwardly. That explains why she'd take care of him and why she wanted to treat his injuries. It was all for the sake of remaining in his grandfather's good graces.
The brief happiness that began to flicker in his heart was snuffed out.
Since he'd fallen silent, Amayah went into the bathroom and returned with a basin of warm water to wipe the blood away.
However, when he sensed her approaching, Nolan scowled fiercely at her. Amayah snapped at him, "Even if you push me away now, I'll just get it done while you're asleep, but I'll tie your hands and feet up first, so I can do as I please. It's your choice."
"You!" Nolan's handsome face flushed a deep red. "You're shameless!"
Amayah simply ignored him.
Fortunately, Nolan didn't push her away this time.
Amayah sat beside him on the bed and placed the basin of water beside her. She took the towel and dipped it in lukewarm water, then squeezed it to drain all the excess water out. Turning towards Nolan, she gently held his handsome face with one of her soft palms, then began wiping.
Amayah wiped the damp towel across Nolan's brow, around his eyes, and down his cheek.
Nolan could feel the warmth of her palm as she gently lifted his face. She was so close to him that he could also smell her pleasant fragrance.
Seeing her affect him so much rage roiled within his heart.
Since she was so close to him and he'd been so focused on her he accurately snatched the towel out of her hand, wringing it tightly to vent his emotions.
"Huh?" Amayah gaped at this. What suddenly happened? Just a moment ago he was sitting like a good, obedient child and getting his wounds cleaned?! And wait…
How did he so accurately snag the towel from her hand? Suspicious Amayah asked, "You can see?"
Nolan stiffened slightly, but then he sneered. He didn't want her to find out that he'd been affected by their close proximity. "If I could, the very first thing I'd do is drive you from this household."
Amayah could easily believe that. He couldn't stand to have her around as it was. Imagine if he regained his sight!
Well, no matter. From the beginning, this marriage between them was nothing more than a transaction. If he really regained his sight one day, it would only signify the fulfillment of her part of the bargain, and she'd reap the rewards without an ounce of regret.
And if, at that time, he wanted a divorce?
She'd like nothing better! Who in the world would wish to spend a lifetime with a savage beast like him?
