Chapter 50: Charlotte’s ball III

Serena was not sure if she was having an auditory hallucination. Did she hear it right? Charlton? And so, she looked at where everyone was looking and there, she saw him.

Instantly, her heart banged on her ribcage, her gut churned, and every cell in her body just wanted to explode. Charlton. He was there. He was really there.

He was still as handsome or even more handsome than she last saw him. His caramel locks, his lightly bronzed skin, his stormy gray eyes, and as he gave a lopsided smile to the audience that were staring at him as he descended the stairs, a dimple teased his right cheek. Just like when she first saw him, just like every single time that he made her heart sing.

In that single moment when Serena was completely caught off guard, she was unable to control nor hide her emotions. Her eyes instantly watered and her nose soured. He was so near that every fiber of her being just screamed, demanded that she reach out to touch him, to see if he was real.
