Chapter 54: Charlotte’s ball VII

As the ensemble hit the last note of the 'Gramofon waltz', Charlton and Annalys also finished their opening dance. Some of the attendees applauded, while some, being more politically aware, anticipated the king's reaction first.

Charlton who positioned himself opposite the king after the dance raised his head after bowing to look squarely at his uncle. Curious to see his reaction.

The King feeling everyone trying to gauge his reaction stood from his seat. Then, as if his nephew did not just dance with the daughter of the Cross family to provoke him, he looked at Charlton in the eye, as he clapped his hands and smiled.

Charlton then understood that his uncle would not openly intervene with his activities. Did he believe Hugo's report? Or was it that he did not plan to take action because he believed in his loyalty? He highly doubts either of that. His uncle must be hiding something in his sleeves to give that confident smile.
