Note on linguistics
As a cultivator seeking the great Dao, they have an intuitive understanding of the truth of the world and of things. So, while Iris doesn't speak the language she can speak and be understood because she understands the truth of what is being conveyed. It does end up coming across like its machine translated. It also doesn't pick up subtilties well. For instance, earl, baron, duke, king, would all come out as lord or leader. Despite that if one listens, they can hear the words themselves and not just the meaning. This extends to a lesser degree in written words which is why Iris still had to learn to write.
