As a new maid to the staff, as well as the world, there was a lot of culture that the girl had missed. This included a holiday with a bit of ambiguous history.
Nobility considered the commoner as little more a beast of burden. In fact, on many of the large estates, the draft animals received superior treatment, as they were more valuable than any number of workers who could be simply replaced. Women were objects often made to disappear if they by chance ended up with child, as by law any blood relative did retain a claim to the peerage.
This state of affairs lasted as long as there were marginalized groups who could fill those low-class roles, when the masses had to deal with it...things had ended poorly. It was at that point the nobility realized that there was an astronomical amount more commoners than nobles.
What should have been bloody riots were witch hunts led by special interest groups via the anger and hatred to their advantage. They also realized that the sheer volume of people could shift on a dime. In order to stop the bloodletting, the major countries of the day accepted talks and passed laws to protect workers' rights. That day that talks began no one on the continent worked waiting to see what the outcome would be. That break eventually became a holiday to appease the masses, including a day off with full pay.
In practice it was often a choice, the day after the Fallen Eve, or day of Stilled work were chosen to have off.
It had been an act of defiance to her mother who wanted to ignore such practices. Dressing as a worker and working as a hired hand become an informal tradition on the Work Still Day. Even the appearance of a strange new maid wouldn't stop it,
Iris felt this was odd, as one never knew who the heavens would bless, better to not needless antagonize. Today's trash was tomorrow's weapon of mass destruction. Without anything specail to do she wanderd the halls coming accros two maids. These maids peaked around the conner when Iris quietly stalked behind them.
"Be careful my lady."
"It's a new bucket and rags, we made sure to file the edges so nothings sharp, she should be fine polishing the windows."
Two servants were watching the young noble gently wipe the windows clean like mother hens.
"Is she going to be ok with the step ladder what if she falls?"
"We hid the ladder remember. She won't find it so it's going to be ok." In the short time it was obvious that the maids who were close to the lady cared way too much about the noble girl.
"Need help getting the top?" Iris asked as she strode pass them. Stopping Valetine turned around. She had the traditional black maid uniform with white skirt, frill mob cap and sheer nylons. This one had hearts embroidered in read thread on the cuff and the entire apron had been cut into the same cute heart pattern. Her red curls bounced, disliking the restraint.
"Miss Xin...If you know where the step ladder is I would apricate it." Refusing to stop her work she turned back before crying out as she was lifted by the hips.
"Iris! Put me down, I can't be light enough. I." Panicking the girl wiggled only to find her carrier to unshakeable.
"Your lighter than a feather tin blade, worry not. Sooner you get the windows done the sooner you can get down." There were tons of words written on the girl's face, but she couldn't push the words out. Instead, she furiously scrubbed in hopes of finishing faster.
Two maids bolted forward, afraid that their lady would fall, but Iris shook her head. The stopped looked at each other and then returned to their cover whispering concerns and consoling each other. Shifting she made the noble comfortable and slowly marched down the hallway as the noble finished sections of the window.
Valetine was very offput, but there was no question she felt secure. It was strange to have another girl with her hands up her skirt holding her thighs, but this was here third time so it wasn't as embarrassing as it could be. She was half siting on the sages' shoulders who showed no sign of fatigue. Why was this girl so strong, it made her have illusions that the noble was safe.
"Done, let me down." Nodding Iris let the noble down swiftly, cradling her knee joint with her arm and shifter her other hand to pull the taller noble closer to her chest.
"Whatever the lady wants." Cradling her for a few moments staring at the emerald eyes of her employer. Gently setting her down, the noble was stunned, before stormed of mention something about a step ladder.
"Quick hurry up!" The two maids chased after the noble while Iris stood alone in the hallway.
"There's something about that girl, I wonder why I take things so far when I don't have to?" Slowly, she padded after the noble playing maid. There were three more halls to clean today, and Iris intend to take advantaged to feel up the poor noble some more.
