Setup

Still not looking at Cadmus, Colt sauntered over to the sink and drained the pasta.

"Your point?"

"Were you worried you won't have anywhere to belong to if you're not useful to anyone?"

A bold question.

Cadmus almost did not ask, afraid it would upset him. But this was something he had to be sure of. Colt hesitated, hands shaking a bit before continuing with his task.

If he wasn't so in tune with his body language, which he's surprised to find he still was, he would've probably missed it.

"You know, I think it's really noble of you to master this kind of stuff to make others happy. However, I hope you don't think you have to, Colt. Your family and I have always appreciated all the work you put in for us, but we'd never think any less of you if you were to stop."

He kept silent, pointedly ignoring Cadmus. But eventually, Colt sighed.

"You're thinking way too much into it."
