Soulmate

Blair had kept quiet for a moment during their exchange from days ago, eyes hard against Conrad's stare.

His questions were rhetorical. Still, she would not take her words back.

"I understand the risks, but I can't help it. I just… really want to go to school again. I'll do whatever lessons you want me to do, and I'll make sure to keep up with my schedule. I... only want to feel like I actually exist. Before you take me away, I hope to experience going to school once more."

Conrad did not cut Blair off this time.

He let her finish her petition, evaluating her with cool pewter eyes. She tried to hold his gaze, though her chest was already sinking with the expectation of disappointment.

"I fear you will forget yourself if you spend too much time on this," Conrad muttered to Blair disapprovingly.
