Late

As soon as Colt's words registered, Cadmus froze and turned slowly with wide eyes.

"You what?"

Colt shrugged in a bad attempt at nonchalance. "We were interrupted by her bodyguard."

"You tried to... Smooch?! Tell me more!" Cadmus pounced on the sofa and leaned closer.

"Don't say it like that! And there's nothing else to tell. Calm down. That's all there is to it."

"Are you really going to say you two nearly kissed and then nothing else happened?"

"Yeah?" Colt scratched the back of his head. "I don't know why I did it, to begin with."

The look on Cadmus's face would have been funny in any other situation. Even more so if it was directed at someone else and not quite as laden with frustration. It almost made Colt feel bad.

'For what?' Again, it's none of anybody's business.

"You are the saddest excuse of a human I've ever met," Cadmus muttered.

Colt huffed, "I could say that back to you. You're the same not too long ago."
