Zombies (2)

Passing through an area with vast amounts of ruination, the Fanged Wolves cautiously travelled forwards as they had their weapons in hand, ready to fight at a moment's notice.

The buildings surrounding them submitted to the sovereignty of time as they were crushed with vast amounts of rubble standing on either side of the grey-ashy road.

After ten more minutes of travelling, the group arrived at an intersection, which only provided access to two other roads, with the other two being destroyed by some unknown horror.

Walking forwards slowly, the silence weighed heavily on Evan's heart as his gaze became more determined.

The unnatural stillness of the surrounding environment proved a sign of lurking danger up ahead, as the eeriness of the Forbidden Wilds did nothing to ease his nerves.

Sure enough, after a few more minutes of travelling, a shocking sight appeared in the squad's eyes as their mouths hung open in surprise.

'W-What!'

Gazing at the wide sea of green in front of him, Evan's heart shook as his eyes widened in disbelief.

Standing in the middle of the road were rows and rows of green abominations, with yellowy-brown pus constantly being secreted out of their bodies as a terrifying putrid smell of rotting bodies permeated through the air.

Instinctively having the urge to throw up, he suppressed it as he gazed at the monstrosity in human flesh.

'What a revolting creature. No wonder the military prioritised in destroying these disgusting creatures ahead of the big-sized monsters.'

In front of the five members of the Fanged Wolves were approximately 100 zombies, who began slowly staggering towards them at a snail's pace after sensing their presence.

A cacophony of snarls and grunts came out from the sea of zombies as they inched forwards under the command of the single zombie who stood in the middle of their ranks.

Tall with blotches of brown interwoven into their green skin, the zombie, which was encased on all sides by his minions, showed a spine-chilling smile after discovering the scent of humans.

"Evan and Kang, come with me. Finn and Astrid, keep your distance and attack from afar."

Shouting at the top of his voice, Otto bellowed out some commands as the rest of the squad were brought out of the daze they were inadvertently trapped in after sighting the large group of zombies.

Shaking his head to get rid of the instinctive fear felt after gazing at such a gruesome and harrowing sight, Evan dashed forwards together with Otto and Kang as they came within metres of the horde of zombies.

Unsheathing his sword, he slashed his sword toward the nearest as Otto and Kang each launched their own devastating strikes.

Cutting through the neck of the zombie with incomparable ease, the dark red blade propelled itself onward as it sliced another zombie in half.

Defeating two zombies in an instant, Evan continued slashing as Otto's and Kang's attacks careened into the other abominations.

With a huge swing of his arms, Otto's hammer smashed into five zombies huddled together as their bodies burst into a shower of blood from the sheer force of the strike.

Kang, meanwhile, released tens of wind slashes which diced tens of zombies into smithereens.

"Evan and Kang, fight with all you've got. The leader is mine. Finn and Astrid begin firing," Otto growled as a fierce killing intent combined with a terrifying bloodlust made him look like a savage monster, with the pressure being exuded from his body rising a notch higher, causing the wind to freeze for a moment.

Responding through his actions rather than words, Evan's vision changed into a kaleidoscope of various colours as he began manipulating the Ki to flow into his body.

Like moths to a flame, the Ki particles in the air entered his body as one thought formed in his mind.

'First Form—Horizon's Dash'

Evan's speed increased as his sword whirled in a dance of murder, with the heads of the grotesque zombies falling off one after the other as the victims of his vicious assault became silenced forever under the dark and unforgiving blade.

Watching Evan go all out from the corner of his eye, Kang's desire to end these abominations soared as he clutched his daggers tighter, turning his knuckles white.

A green and purple light bloomed from his body, enhancing its capabilities to inhuman levels as the two daggers he possessed became incarnations of death, spreading terror into those who gazed at them.

Willing mana into his daggers, a section of the purple hue covering his body moved towards the weapons as lightning tendrils snaked their way across the smooth, cold surface of the blades creating a terrifying glint of sharpness ready to impose thunder's wrath on these repulsive creatures.

Flashing forwards, Kang released 4 lightning bolts which stunned the 4 zombies in his immediate vicinity before he sliced their bodies cleanly, relieving the misery of these former humans as he sent them to the afterlife.

In the meantime, swathes of mana particles were swarming in the direction of Finn and Astrid, as the pressure made from the charging of their combat spells was enough to make anyone think twice before attacking them.

Alas, zombies were mindless creatures after all, so it was inevitable they would be devoid of emotion apart from the intense desire to sink their teeth into anything that comes into their sights.

Issuing a throaty growl, the zombies increased their effort as they became attracted to the mana flowing around the mage duo, seeing them as shining beacons of light.

Finished weaving his spell first, a blazing heat erupted from Finn's body as a huge fireball appeared in front of him.

"The eternal flame of light, the never-ending star, the bearer of destruction, I summon thee. Fireball!"

Right after his words, the fireball shot forward with explosive might as it crashed into the ranks of zombies quite a distance from where Evan, Kang and Otto were fighting.

The flames blazed, burning everything within their reach as countless zombies melted due to the fiery heat released from the orange-coloured flames. As their green bodies became charred black with the last remaining embers of their life crumbling into ash.

Mayhem, Carnage, Havoc and Destruction.

The perfect words to describe the slaughter that occurred just from the untold wrecking created by the burgeoning flames.

Face paling with sweat trickling down his forehead, Finn panted for breath as he began filling up his mana pool after expending large amounts of mana to create the fireball.

Although he chanted the spell, which helped keep it under control and take off some of the burdens of activating it, he couldn't help but feel a wave of exhaustion wash over him after conjuring the fireball.

Taking a deep breath, Finn attempted to restore as much mana as he could to attempt to conjure another powerful offensive spell.
