Blinding light assaulted my eyes as I forced them open. I jumped up instantly, remembering the fight with Tyler and company. My chest and head protested angrily, causing me to growl from the waves of pain. I hear something fall to the ground and look towards the sound, half expecting to find Tyler or any of my other attackers. Instead, I find an anxious-looking female wolf in a white lab coat. Keeping her in my peripheral, I take in my surroundings. I'm in a nice-sized room with a small, tan, leather love seat and a medium-sized TV mounted to the wall. The bed, I realize I'm on, resembles the ones I've seen in hospitals on TV. There's an IV in my arm going to, what looks, and smells like, a saline bag. My eyes travel towards the constant beeping sound that has been present since my eyes opened. It looks like a heart monitor.
"Young Luna? You're in the pack infirmary. Don't move too much, you have a concussion and your bones need to mend."
I flicked my eyes back to the brown-haired female who had started to approach me with a clipboard now in her hand. I kept my gaze emotionless but let out a warning growl. She stopped her approach. She seemed harmless enough, but I don't know who she is, and that was enough to make sure she kept her distance. I looked down at my body, while still keeping an eye on her, and realized I was in a hospital gown. This instantly made me uncomfortable. I hugged myself, with the arm that wasn't throbbing, and backed up, putting as much distance between me and the female as I could manage. I growled again, and she backed up, putting her hands up and sighing. It was at this moment the door opened and the smell of chocolate mint flowed into the room. Leo looked at me with a relieved expression as he walked over. I relaxed slightly at his presence. He took in my position and looked in my eyes concerned,
"What's wrong, love?"
I flicked my eyes towards the female, who looked both exasperated and relieved, before lowering my eyes and tightening the hold I had on myself. Leo got the message, thank goodness, and asked her to leave. I released the breath I didn't realize I was holding and growled softly from the pain. A touch on my arm caused me to look up at Leo,
"Baby, you need to lay down and rest. You have three broken ribs, a broken arm, and a concussion. You shouldn't be sitting up like this for, at least, another day."
I nodded, and he helped me lie down before pressing a kiss to my forehead,
"I'm sorry I didn't get there sooner. I knew I had a bad feeling, I just didn't know-"
"That's right."
He looked towards me in confusion,
"What?"
"You didn't know, Leo. So why exactly are you apologizing?"
He opened his mouth, probably to say something about being a good mate who can protect me. I rolled my eyes and grabbed his shirt, pulling him down 'til his lips met mine. I bit his lip gently and pulled back,
"You're a perfect mate. Perfectly imperfect like me, and I love it. So stop beating yourself up over things you can't control. Tyler will get his."
I emphasized the last part with a smirk before kissing him again and releasing his shirt. He smiled at me as he stood again. He pulled over the chair, that I now noticed, was sitting in the corner under the TV. As he sat next to me, he held up a TV remote in one hand and his phone in the other,
"Music or TV."
I smirked. Recently, I'd discovered music streaming and was enjoying the non-stop music I now had access to. I'd even found a few musicians I really enjoyed. I pointed towards the phone,
"Music."
He nodded and put the remote down as he started to swipe around on his phone,
"Whatcha wanna listen to, baby?"
"Play the K-12 album."
He nods, and soon Melanie Martinez's voice is bouncing off the walls. Almost as if the phone knows everything that's transpired, Drama Club starts to play. A bit topical, aren't we? Leo lays his phone down and starts to play in my hair. I let my eyes close and savor the feeling. We stayed like that for a few songs before he cleared his throat quietly. I open my eyes slowly and look towards him. He looks down, slightly nervous before meeting my eye,
"About Tyler-"
"I'm gonna kick his ass."
"I never said you shouldn't or couldn't. Just...make sure I'm there."
I sighed, and he quickly began speaking again,
"Not that I think you can't handle yourself or anything, I just-"
"You don't want me to kill him."
He was quiet for a moment before he sighed,
"Kind of...If it was someone else, I wouldn't have considered it, but I know how much he gets under your skin."
I closed my eyes. He had a point, so I wasn't offended. I nodded,
"I wouldn't have it any other way."
I was being completely honest, too. I preferred to fight by my mate's side, even if he was only there to reign me in. He exhaled and continued to play in my hair. I opened my eyes slightly to look down at the hospital gown,
"Who changed my clothes?"
"I did. No one else should see your body but me."
I blushed slightly at this possessively protective side of him. It was a little bit of a turn-on. He caressed my cheek gently, causing me to lean into his touch as I looked up at his loving gaze,
"I also know you'd be more comfortable with me than someone else."
He was so sweet. I didn't deserve someone like him. I placed my hand over his,
"Thank you."
He leaned closer to me,
"You're welcome, gorgeous."
He kissed me, swiping his tongue over my bottom lip. Before I was able to give him access, the door opened. We pulled apart and looked towards the door as my face dropped to its usual blank mask. In walked the same brown-haired female, followed by Mical. I nodded towards Mical before watching the female cautiously. Mical spoke first with a kind smile,
"It's good to see you up, Cyrus. I got worried when Leo first brought you in."
"Thank you for the concern, but trust me, I've had worse. It'll take a lot more than some hormonal pricks to do any real damage."
My tone remained even as I spoke, my eyes never leaving the female who had yet to introduce herself. She was starting to squirm under my gaze, but I didn't care. I was injured, and she was a stranger. Mical followed my gaze and smiled at me reassuringly while gesturing towards her,
"This is Marie. She's one of the pack doctors. She's in charge of your care while you're here."
She smiled at me kindly, and I nodded back,
"How long am I gonna be here?"
"Because of the ribs and concussion, three days. Afterwards, you'll need another two days to make sure you're fully healed before you're able to participate in either training or battle class."
I closed my eyes and cursed Tyler's existence before meeting her gaze once again,
"Alright. Thank you for taking care of me."
Her eyes flashed a look of surprise before she smiled kindly and reassuringly,
"Not at all, it's my pleasure."
She's nice. I closed my eyes again since Leo had gone back to playing in my hair. I heard the door open and close and leaned into Leo's touch. Back to relaxing.
"What do you intend to do about Tyler?"
Or not. I opened my eyes again to see Mical looking at Leo and I seriously,
"An eye for an eye. No more, no less."
I was being very serious, though my tone revealed nothing. Tyler would walk away with nothing less than a broken arm, three broken ribs, and a concussion. Most likely nothing more since Leo would be there. I held his searching stare steadily until he finally sighed,
"Don't go too far. We don't necessarily have an alliance with his Shadow, but we're on good terms. I don't want the headache of a conflict. No matter how much I want to wring the little bastard's neck."
I blinked in surprise, seeing Mical's eyes flash amber at the end of the sentence. Mical must have noticed the gesture because he smiled warmly at me,
"You're a part of the family now and if you hurt my family, you hurt me."
I blinked again, swallowing the lump that had formed in my throat,
"Thank you."
He continued to smile and patted my foot as he turned to leave,
"You don't have to thank me."
After he'd left, Leo caressed my cheek again,
"You better watch out, he already sees you as one of his kids. He's gonna start being extra protective."
I laughed, leaning into his touch,
"You have a great dad so I don't mind."
We spent the rest of the night talking and listening to music 'til I drifted off.
