The Combination

Yami's eyes twitched while trying to calm himself. He glanced at Mei, who was testing out all the Mage skills available while he could not.

"Ah, this pisses me off," Yami muttered and searched for the skills he had gotten in the system when a notification appeared on his screen.

[!QUEST]

[THE CHOSEN.]

[DESCRIPTION: PICK THE 'NIGHTSHADOW' SOUL FOR THE ASSASSIN VESSEL.]

[REWARD: NIGHTSHADOW'S THIRD SKILL.]

[FAILURE: QUEST CANCELLED.]

"They're giving an important skill for this simple quest," Yami scoffed and searched for the given skills.

"Now, I have two main skills to open later," Yami stated in satisfaction. He clicked the skills available and stored them inside his vessel. For the sub-skills, Yami had only put a shield.

"Ying, you didn't test out the skills?" Shun stated while walking toward him.

"Nope, I don't need to," Yami answered with a whistle.

"I see, that's great," Shun smiled and tapped Ying's shoulder as they both chuckled when a blast erupted at the other side.

"Mei!" Fang yelled and ran towards her in concern.

"I'm okay," Mei exclaimed and waved her hands to gesture that she was unharmed.

"What are you doing?" Yami asked and looked at the damage against the wall. "Your mana is indeed powerful."

"I'm sorry," Mei apologized. She was scared that she would destroy the whole building.

"Do you want me to help you choose a suitable skill?" Yami stated and patted Mei's head.

"Su-sure!" Mei exclaimed and looked at Yami helplessly.

"Mage training includes aiming, right? Do you aim well?" Yami asked while browsing hundreds of mage skills on the monitor.

"Yes, but I'm having difficulty aiming at the moving targets," Mei explained and fidgeted at the hem of her blouse.

"I see," Yami nodded. He was searching for a kill that Mei could take advantage of her perfect mana score.

"Here it is!" Yami stated and stretched his shoulder from searching for 15 minutes. "Now, you can try it with the vessel."

"O-okay," Mei nodded.

Fang created dummy foes for Mei to test out her skills.

Mei fires Mystic bullets at the dummy, and it passes through, hitting another form behind.

"Fang, make the dummies move. Mei utilizes a combo of second skill and first skill," Yami instructed and watched the result.

When Mei activated, the second skill was a Mystic barrier and followed by the first skill. It created a state that prevented a target from moving that lasted five seconds.

"Now, use the third skill!" Yami exclaimed in excitement.

Mei unleashed a beam of Mystic magic that dealt magical damage to all enemies in a line on the map. The beam was so big and bright that Fang immediately blocked the mana transmission inside the room to prevent the beam from making a hole in the building.

Everyone was shocked and speechless at what they had seen.

"Woah!" Yami was satisfied with the power that he clapped three times. "Mei, you're amazing."

"Bu-but, I nearly destroyed our building," Mei muttered with tears in her eyes from shock.

"It's fine. Nothing happened anyway," Yami laughed and patted Mei's head to comfort her.

Meanwhile, Fang and Shun were still in a daze at what had happened.

"Without the combo, the barrier can slow down the enemies," Yami explained and let Mei activate the skill again, and he went through it. He felt his body become restricted for a few seconds when he passed inside.

"I see," Mei exclaimed, mentally taking notes of her new skills.

"The skills are well-suited to Mei's taste," Fang commented and applauded Yami's choice.

"How about you, Ying. What did you choose?" Shun stated and was intrigued at the skills Yami had chosen.

"Oh," Yami muttered and activated the second skill, which showed the stingers on his arm.

"That skill," Fang muttered with a smile. "You're the first one to use that, Ying."

"Really?" Yami was surprised. "Nobody had used this before, even just once?"

Fang shook her head. "Well, several Combatants tried it before but didn't make it their official skills."

'Why?" Yami asked and crossed his arms. He was curious about the Combatant's dislike of the skills when it was powerful in his personal experience.

"Well, first, you need to move faster than average, and the second skill can only be activated after several passive attacks. So it's unpopular with the offensive Combatants who liked to see the results of their aggression," Fang explained. She giggled and went to hug Yami.

"I can't believe our branch Combatant will be the first to use that unpopular set of skills," Fang added.

Yami's pride boosted that he picked those skills, but the pressure of being the first to use them was heavier than expected.

"This will be interesting," a voice from behind echoed inside the room.

Looking back, they saw Liqin munching a box of cheesy fries again.

"Liqin!"

"Yo! seems like you're all ready for the tournament," Liqin stated and chuckled.

"They are," Fang giggled and grabbed some fries from Liqin. "You three can do what you want now."

"Okay!" the three of them stated in unison and watched Fang drag Liqin with her.

"I'll retreat back to my room. I want to take a quick nap," Yami bid them goodbye before leaving and going to his room.

Yami wasn't going to nap but to check the base vessels. Since he was in the branch building and couldn't leave without them knowing.

Yami activated the 'The Door.'

Yami ignored the emotion that tried to escape upon entering. He wore the soul ring and activated the vessel to see if the combination would work and what would be the result.

"Soul On!" Yami muttered, and a glimpse of light blinded him when the soul ring's mana traveled through his skin toward the vessel, connecting each other, creating a black gauntlet with six stones; representing each soul class.

"Woah," Yami muttered with amazement. He never expected that the combination of technologies would take effect into something much more potent.
