Chapter 4 Troubles on the Horizon

When we had heard the banging on the balcony door, it was Rosa for sure. She had gotten away before we got to the door but her scent was everywhere. Jonathan also found a note saying the second I am alone they will attack. Jonathan crumbled the paper up into a ball as he growled menacingly. "Listen to me I will not let anything happen to you." He said as he put his hands on both sides of my face and looked deep into my eyes. "I love you no matter what." He said seconds before he pressed his lips onto mine.

"What are we going to do?" I asked when he broke the kiss.

"Well, first we will call a meeting. I am promoting Lincoln to Gamma. Ginsing will be with you every second that I am not. He will have orders to mind link me every hour so I know you are alright." He said as he walked toward the door with my hand in his.

We walked toward Jonathan's office after he mind linked Jimmi, Lincoln, and Ginsing to meet us there for an important meeting. They were already there when we arrived.

"Alpha what is this about?" Jimmi said as he stood up and offered me his chair.

"My mate will be sitting on the couch next to me thanks Jimmi. Anyways read this." Jonathan said as he handed the paper to Jimmi.

"Hello, Jonathan,

The very first time you leave your precious Luna alone we will attack and you will never see her again.

Love Rosa." Jimmi read out loud. He got a very angry look on his face.

"This means that Ginsing will be spending a lot of time with my mate. Jimmi I want you to bump up the warrior's searching times until we find them. Lincoln I called you here because I wanted to promote you to Gamma. Your first job is to coordinate with the lead warriors in each section of the pack." Jonathan said.

"Alpha would you be alright with me having my mate with us when I sit with Luna? She has been wanting to meet Luna. And she is just as good at fighting as I am." Ginsing said after I let go of the breath I was holding.

"Fine. My father, mother, and sister are allowed around her. As well as Jimmi's mate Taylor. Anyone else must stay away from her when I am not there." Jonathan said. I fell asleep with my head on Jonathan's shoulder so I didn't know what happened during the rest of the meeting.

I was beginning to fear leaving our apartment. The Warriors haven't found my father or Rosa. My father keeps mind linking me, telling me how worthless I am and how I will ruin the pack by pretending to be the Alpha's mate. I haven't felt like eating in days. Jonathan has begged me to eat for him, but I can only get a few bites down before I feel nauseous. When Jonathan has his Alpha duties, either Ginsing or Lincoln sits with me. I like it when Lincoln comes and sits with me because Ashleigh joins him.

I barely slept. I was terrified that if they got into our apartment Jonathan wouldn't wake up fast enough, so I stayed awake. Sometimes, when one of the two warriors was sitting with me, I would take a quick nap as long as I knew they were watching for danger. I knew I was hurting Jonathan because he spent more and more time out of the apartment. He said he was trying to help the warriors in their search but I couldn't help but feel like he had started regretting his accepting me. Perhaps he knows it would have been better if he had just rejected me and paired up with Rosa.

Suddenly, Jonathan and Brent barged into the room, causing Ginsing to jump off of the couch with his hands balled into fists. As soon as he had time to see that it was just Jonathan and Brent, Ginsing calmed down and lowered his head. "Sorry Alpha, Alpha's father," Ginsing said, keeping his head down.

"That is alright Ginsing. I am glad to see that you are keeping my mate's safety seriously." Jonathan said as he walked over to me. I kept my eyes down. "We got them all. They are in prison but I must deal with them. I will let it be your choice since it is you they have threatened," Jonathan said calmly.

"I don't trust my father. You already exiled him. But Rosa has a family that still loves her. Isn't there a way of getting through to her?" I said. I didn't like someone so young spending their life in prison.

"I don't know my love. If she can't accept that we are mates, then there is no changing her. We have no choice but to exile her or execute her. I don't like that idea, but I can't let anyone disrespect you." Jonathan said. "Is there anything you would like to say to your father before?"

"No. I don't want to see him." I said as I felt tears falling from my eyes. I may never have had that father-daughter relationship with my father, but he was still my father.

"Sophia, I wish I didn't have to do this but I don't know how to get him to stop, mind linking you. I can't watch you starve yourself. I don't like seeing you afraid of even going to sleep at night. One day you're going to be carrying our child and I can't have my heir suffering or his mother." Jonathan said. I knew he was right, but he was still my father.

"Luna, would you feel better saying your feelings to him if you had someone there with you and not just Alpha?" Ginsing said after a moment of silence. All I did was nod. "If the alpha allows it, I will join you and I promise I will not let him harm you." We walked to the pack prison where my father was in a cell. Jonathan promised that he had been given wolfbane, so he couldn't do anything to me other than just listen.

When we got to his cell, he was lying up against the wall. He looked like he was drunk. When we walked in, he looked up and saw me. He smiled but it wasn't a happy smile. "Look what you did bitch." He spat.

"No, you did that. Why did you hate me so much? I was just a small pup that needed her father and you chose to hate me." I said, trying to fight the tears.

"I did nothing. You caused your mother to die. You caused me to lose my mate, you worthless scum." He said in what sounded like an attempt to yell. Suddenly, Jonathan was in front of him and my father was on the ground with blood coming out of his mouth.

"Don't you dare speak to my mate like that," Jonathan growled. All my father did was chuckle.

"I am not scum. You are. You couldn't have loved me. You did everything you could to bring me down. I am not going to let you have that power over me anymore." I said as I turned to leave. Jonathan followed.

"Do it," Jonathan said when we passed Dr. Hanson. We left the prison. I felt bad for not fighting to keep my father alive. We drove home in silence. When we got to the pack house, Brent was standing in the doorway.

"Oh, Sophia," Brent said as he pulled me into a hug. Brent has been more like a father to me in the short time that Jonathan and I have been mates than my father has been my entire life.

"I didn't do anything to help him," I said as I sobbed on Brent's shoulder.

"Sophia, it is not your job to help him," Brent said in a sweet, comforting voice.

"But he is my father," I said as he pulled me off his shoulder and held me at arm's length.

"Listen to me, Sophia. He treated you horribly for a long time. When Jonathan first told me you were his mate, I told your father to keep you well fed. He refused. You were your mother's pride and joy. You were her princess. I remember when you were born she told my mate you would do great things in your life. She did what all mothers would do when those rogues attacked her and then for your father to treat you the way he did. That is just wrong." Brent said.

"Dad, will you have mom and Ashleigh join you as you come to our apartment?" Jonathan asked.

"Of course, Alpha," Brent said with a chuckle. He turned and walked toward the apartment he shared with his family. I walked toward our apartment. I was suddenly tired. I also felt like I had no family. Of course, Jonathan is my family now, but my mother died a long time ago and now my father is dead. My sister never wanted anything to do with me. When I opened the door to the apartment, I saw Rosa in it.

"Hello, Slut," Rosa said.

"You need to leave," I said. "Jonathan help. Rosa is in our apartment." I mind-linked Jonathan. He was in our apartment within a few seconds. He had zip ties in his hand.

"I have already contacted the entire pack. They are meeting us in the stage room," Jonathan said as he put the zip ties on Rosa's wrists. They had a small band of silver in the middle to keep a werewolf from being able to shift. We walked toward the stage room where the pack had already gathered. We walked toward the front and I tried to stand by Ashleigh and Anya but Jonathan grabbed my hand and gently pulled me towards him.

"As you all know, I was named alpha and my mate was named Luna. On that day, I exiled four members of our pack. Those four members returned right away and caused trouble for my mate. Today I had to execute Joseph Greggor. Then, when my mate and I returned home, she found Rosa in our apartment without permission. Now I will pass judgment on her. Rosa, from this day forward you will be known as Pack Omega." Jonathan said as Rosa started growling.

"I am not an Omega, I am worthy of being your mate and Luna of this pack. That slut doesn't deserve you." Rosa said as she tried to approach Jonathan.

"You have a choice. Be an Omega or life in a prison cell with wolfsbane every hour. I will also have no other choice but to keep these silver zip ties on as well." Jonathan said as he backed up and stood by me.

"I will be an Omega." She said as she held her hands up and let her head drop.

"No, you will keep those on. I can't have you going around bothering my mate anymore. Oh, Sandra, why don't you come up here? But before she does. Dad put the silver zip tie on," Jonathan said, as movement caught my eye. I started to feel bad for them. I didn't feel right that my mate was doing this for me. As I watched Sandra walking up to Brent and holding her wrist out, I saw her looking at me with a smirk.

After Brent put the zip tie on, she came up on the stage with her eyes glued to me. As soon as she was up all the way she lunged at me. I jumped back before she could grab hold of me. But this time it wasn't Jonathan who came to my rescue. It was a jet-black wolf with sky-blue eyes. I noticed how this wolf looked identical to my wolf. She stood in front of me baring her teeth at Sandra. She held her ears back flat on her head. "Alpha, we searched Joseph Greggor's house just now. That is why we were late. We found her chained to a wall in the basement. We haven't a clue who she is." Lincoln and some other wolf named Matteo said.

Once Jonathan grabbed Sandra and pushed her next to Rosa, the black wolf turned and looked at me. When she did so, I felt safe. Safer than I have felt in ten years. I felt the same kind of safety I felt when my mom held me in my arms. "Momma," I said as a tear fell from my eye and I dropped to my knees. When it did, the black wolf came up to me and licked my cheek before putting her chin on my shoulder.

It can't be her. She died when the rogues attacked her plus why would her mate keep her locked up in the basement? Suddenly, Ashleigh brought the wolf a shirt and pants. She took it gently before looking at me again. She ran behind the wall, probably to shift back to her human form. She came out again and it was my mother. I could no longer hold my tears back and I burst as I put my hands over my eyes.

My mom was alive. I didn't know how this could be. I was hoping she would stay long enough for me to ask. Why did my father have her locked up in our basement? Is this why he would always get mad at my sister Cassie for trying to go into the basement? "Sandra, I was simply going to give orders that you remain silvered but your desire to attack my mate has resulted in your sentence of being in prison until further notice. You will receive wolfsbane for three months every hour day and night. We will reassess your sentence after those three months." Jonathan growled, causing both she-wolves to flinch. "Rosa, the first task of your time as omega will be to keep both Alpha and Beta apartments well cleaned. Once you have finished that, you will cook for the pack every day. Lindsey, you will come and stay in the spare bedroom of our apartment. Jimmi and Lincoln will take Sandra to prison."

After the meeting was over, we walked with my mom to our apartment. I wanted answers but I was afraid of what they would be. "Why were you stuck in the basement?" I finally blurted out.

"Joseph isn't your real father. Once I caught him cheating on me, so I felt compelled to cheat on him. I realized that he was also not my mate when I met your father. He was the alpha of the Black Moon Pack. Joseph caught us and six months later you were born. Joseph knew you were not his, so he arranged for a group of rogues to attack in the hopes of killing you. I couldn't allow them to do so. They captured me and your father forced me to shift into my wolf, then he silvered me so I could never shift back to my human form." My mom said as a tear fell down her eye.

"Wait, Cassie's mate is the new alpha of the Black Moon Pack," I said, suddenly remembering who my sister's mate was.

"Oh alright." That was all my mom said as we walked into the pack house.

"I am sorry mom. I am very tired and would like to take a nap," I said as I started to walk toward the bedroom. I lay in bed and began to ball my eyes out. The man I thought was my father is the cause of me thinking my mother was dead. Yet he blamed me for her death.

"Hey, why are you crying?" Jonathan asked when he came out of the bathroom.

"My mom is alive," I said as I wiped some of the tears away.

"I know that is a good thing. Isn't it?" Jonathan said as he sat down next to me.

"Well yeah but my dad treated me so badly acting like the grieving mate and he knew the entire time my mom was alive. Jonathan?" I said as I wiped more tears away.

"What?" He said as he rubbed my back.

"I saved myself for you," I said.

"I know beloved." He said with a small chuckle.

"But you're not the first to touch me," I said as I rolled over and looked at him. He looked angry.

"What are you talking about?" Jonathan said breathing hard.

"When I shifted for the first time I didn't expect it to happen and the clothes I was wearing got shredded so when I shifted back to my human form I was naked. I walked into my house and was grabbed by behind by a man I don't know and he dragged me to a room. He started touching me everywhere and he whispered that it was alright because my dad said it was alright. He started touching me in my private area and then we heard a wolf howling and he stopped and jumped out of the window. I had seen him visiting my dad many times." I said not looking at him as the memories flooded back. "Could it be that the wolf howling was my mom? Could she have saved me without knowing it?"

"It is possible," Jonathan said after a second of just staring at me. I didn't know if he was mad at me. All I knew was I was only sixteen when it happened.

"Did anyone else know about this?" Jonathan asked after looking at me for a long time.

"No. I never told anyone. I never thought there would be anyone willing to care for me enough for me to want to talk to them about it. Please don't be mad at me." I said as fresh tears came out.

"I am not mad at you. I just wish I could have been there for you." Jonathan said as he laid back down on the bed. "Turn around." He said and I did so. He scooted in behind me and wrapped his arm around me and allowed me to use his other arm as a pillow. It wasn't as soft as a real pillow but the sparks that went through my body made up for it.
