Chapter 16: A Heavy Burden

Priscilla’s POV

“Good morning, Priscilla. Thank you for coming,” Eva greeted me as I was led into her office. “Leave us, Bernardo. Keep prying ears off this door.”

“Of course, Signorina,” he replied, leaving my side and closing the door behind him.

My gaze darted back across the room. Her office was set up very differently than Wyatt’s. While he seemed to favor warm tones and wooden features, Eva’s office was adorned with wrought iron and velvet-upholstered chairs. Everything about Eva screamed Old Money.

There was an inhuman quality about her. A timeless beauty with the fangs of a viper. Her sandy blonde hair was neatly styled, dark, nearly black, brown eyes that reeked of superiority. Perfectly manicured fingernails that could easy slice right into me. I was reminded that, even though she had no desire to hurt me, she could.

“Take a seat, please. We have much to discuss,” The Matriarch Romano said, gesturing to a chair across from her.
