Chapter 31: Evil, Underground, Dark Mythological Rome

MILO’S POV

The funeral, which isn’t really a funeral, is a peculiar experience. The vampires gather in the salon, where Nori confirms that Flora was keeping an eye on me.

“Flora,” she whispers when the woman approaches on her other side, “did you offer to dismember my fledgling?”

“It wasn’t really an offer, more of an assessment,” the blonde says.

“Did you intentionally play stupid to draw him away from his troubles?” Nori pushes, a hint of a smile on her face.

“You should have seen him, getting himself all riled up. He threatened to bang his head off the wall, you know. I assume you wanted to return to a holding where his face didn’t look like hamburger or where he’d worked himself into a froth,” Flora says, suddenly sinking into a high brow English accent.

“You’re thoughtful, Flora,” Nori says.
